But even more disgusting is the sermon delivered at her church earlier this month by the head of Jews for Jesus, attributing terrorist attacks in Israel to the failure to convert to Christianity. I certainly wouldn't want to validate in any way the wringer Obama got put through over Wright, but seriously? (And yes, she was there, for whatever that means.)
Well, he was a guest speaker there. I'm not sure what it says about the church that they chose to invite him, but it's not like she was going back week after week to listen to this guy.
True. I'm a little scared to look at the other sermons. (They're all up on the church's web site.) She is on record describing Iraq as a task from god*. And also the Alaska Oil Pipeline.
*not meaning to suggest that she sees the "task" quite the way Brickner would. But I still find that framing disturbing.
Thanks, folks. He was good people. It's a loss to the world--and of course to his family.
ION, I am fresh back from a scouting trip: I went to the Apple store and Best Buy to look at laptops. Since this baby crashed again on startup tonight--twice.
I'm sorry about your friend, Consuela
Condolences, Consuela.
Did you find anything good on your trip? I hate Best Buy, but I couldn't pass up the deal on this laptop.
In my other news, thanks Steph! I got your sodamixes for my penguin today! They are awesome.
The SO made ginger ale today from ginger. It is yum, but was very strong, so we had to add extra selzer.
Sure picking Palin is relevant. Palin's daughter's pregnancy is I think irrelevant.
I disagree. And it has nothing to do with morality.
It's a (potential) huge distraction for her. I know people who thought that Edwards was a problematic candidate for a similar reason (because of his wife's illness not the other thing). I didn't, but I think that it's entirely appropriate to include that factor in evaluating whether one should choose this person to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. As such, it's news.
And the fact that McCain selected Palin, after he supposedly knew about this and the reaction that it might elicit? Sorry, but I think that's also important information. To again refer to Edwards, if Obama had picked him knowing what was going to come out about his affair, I would think it showed lack of judgement/political saavy.
Whether or not Obama should be discussing Palin is a whole other issue. And, I agree, that would be unwise for all the reasons listed.
I'm not happy to see the news harping on it, but the news talking about something and Obama's campaign talking about something are two different things in my mind.
Just to play devil's advocate...would we be having the same discussions if Palin had a penis instead of a vagina?
A male VP candidate with a 4 month old Downs baby and a 17 year old pregnant daughter would NOT cause the same stir.
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, 'Suela.
Just to play devil's advocate...would we be having the same discussions if Palin had a penis instead of a vagina?
Well, I used a man in my examples.
But, I also think the sad reality is that caregiving duties are not generally shared 50-50, nor do many people think they should be. And, as a politician, you have to deal with that reality.
A male VP candidate with a 4 month old Downs baby and a 17 year old pregnant daughter would NOT cause the same stir.
Possibly not the Downs portion, but I think the 17-year-old unmarried daughter would still be a point, especially Dad was big in "abstinence is the only way" etc. Kind of like Larry Craig's wide stance.
