There are several people there who treated her well and seemed basically competent but the culture is just so toxic. I'm thrilled she's getting out.

Jakob apparently spent his time aggressively busting drug suspects, with the complicity of the local police department, claiming 'he did not need search warrants to enter their homes because he worked for the federal government.'"

And the questions keep coming. How did Mr. Jakob wander into town and apparently leave the mayor, the aldermen and pretty much everyone else he met thinking that he was a federal agent delivered from Washington to help barrel into peoples’ homes and clean up Gerald’s drug problem? And why would anyone — receiving no pay and with no known connection to little Gerald, 70 miles from St. Louis and not even a county seat — want to carry off such a time-consuming ruse in the first place?

It's rather disturbing to me that he convinced police officers that he didn't need a warrant....

You know, the NFL had to deal with this a couple years ago, with a player named Randall Gay. There are certain words you can't get on the back of a custom NFL jersey, like FUCKFACE and FARTYHEAD and the names of any players who have been convicted of murder (I think that's only one person) and various other no-no words. And until Randall Gay was drafted, GAY was one word you couldn't get. Now they have to allow it, and lots of people have been very happy to order GAY jerseys, even if they don't have any idea who Randall Gay is.

It's Canada Day, and I feel like I should be eating something grilled, but my tummy seems to be revolting against me.

I am watching the Canada Day ceremony on Parliament Hill on TV, and the main military guy who's marshaling the troops for a walk past the G-G seems to be missing his front three teeth.
