A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
Well, that's a good point. I'm guessing at this point we're somewhere around 1st Samuel 18 or so. So David's not all that removed from being a shepherd. Which reminds me, did they explicitly date this brother? 'Cause David was the youngest, but he wasn't really giving off a kid brother vibe in that relationship to me.
But we should have already had (Biblical spoilers)
the beginnings of Saul's madness and David playing to soothe him. We have David as a musician, but not playing for Saul. And we definitely should have had Jonathan & David's close friendship, with possible commitment ceremony by now.
Furthermore, Biblical Jonathan really was a military man, who fought side by side with his dad by now. So it's odd that they've decided to go with this characterization.
I looked it up; I didn't have all this memorized, but I do find it interesting.
A lot of choices seem to be less interesting than going with something closer to the original. To take a minor point: "Saul, Saul has slain his thousands, but David, David his tens of thousands" changes to a Queen-comment on bidding for a seat...
I wouldn't go so far as to map the Kings characters onto those of Firefly's and declare it a neat fit, it was just a fleeting handful of moments from Thomasina, last week and this, and her calling Silas on his shit. But the characters are uniquely their own, and Thomasina's relief after getting promoted was very un-Zoe-like and ended the vibe for me.
I think writers often have a difficult time creating a virtuous character who is interesting.
I mean Neo was perhaps the least interesting character in the Matrix trilogy
The Wachowskis did fine by Morpheus, and he was plenty virtuous. Of course, he was also played by Lawrence Fishburne as opposed to Keanu, but I think at least a small share of the difference was already on the page.
If I ever have a daughter, I'll name her Haggith. And then I'll teach her to fight.
If you name her Haggith, her classmates will take care of the teaching her to fight part for you.

But also batshit crazy, which helps with the interesting.
I'm more or less okay with David being boring at this juncture, because we need at least one character in there who isn't harboring a Deep Dark Sooper-Seekrit.
Didn't the name Haggith just turn into Agatha?

It doesn't help that the actor playing the character has about as much emotion as a block of wood.

But he's so pretty! And apparently smart enough to have built a career around that.
Whoa. Good CHUCK so far. I have no idea how Casey ISN'T going to kill Chuck at this point, except possibly due to orders.
Chuck in black, wielding weapons...
I'ma gonna be in my corner.
And no one else but Scott Bakula could have possibly played that part.

Even though the stupid preview last week kinda gave the game away, he really sold me on the "crazy, paranoid dad" thing.
The only thing I wish was that they had gotten Albert Brooks for the Chevy Chase role so there could be a big Ken Scorpio shout out.
