Reavers ain't men. Or they forgot how to be. Now they're just nothing. They got out to the edge of the galaxy, to that place of nothing, and that's what they became.

Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Ashes to Ashes is now ahemmable!

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Is there any word on when and if A2A will come to the U.S.? Ahemming is no longer an option for me (wah!).

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

Eli Stone apparently works at Wolfram & Hart's SF office.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Ah then this is where it goes

I gave ES a second go, but it's still... meh.

It's bland.

It has the imitation ingredients to be a fun, quirky show, but it was baked by someone watching a cooking show with the volume off and making the dish by how it looks, not understanding how it should taste or what those actual ingredients are.

Like there was a bunch of white dudes who said "We like that thing about Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies, let's do that" but had no idea what it was about it that they actually liked or how to recreate it.

::rereads::

Maybe I should offer up a third (fourth?) way of saying the exact same thing? I keep thinking of food analogies. I think it's a symptom of thinking of Pushing Daisies.

edit although I did get excited when they used Iron & Wine's "Boy With a Coin" in the beginning.

Cool!

I just watched Ashes to Ashes. I'm not sure what I think about it yet. Mostly, it makes me miss Life on Mars.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

TW 4: Man, that CGI sucked. I tried to let it not detract, but still...that was painful.

On the other hand, Ianto rocked, and Rhys was way cool, and I liked Gwen's righteousness.

Now, there are some variable things. What am I seeing in Ianto's eyes when the show seems to be spoonfeeding us Jack/Gwen? Why is there no residual Owen/Gwen? Is Tosh pining for Owen in particular, or just someone right now?

Those answers are pretty important to my continued enjoyment.

TW 2.4: I agree with ita. Thanks for putting your finger on what's been bothering me about all the relationship stuff. Though judging by the preview there might be some answers in next episode. Fortunately there's another cracking actor playing the AlienOfTheWeek - Bryan Dick (of "Bleak House" and "Master & Commander", amongst other things).

On "Ashes to Ashes" I agree with P-C:

I'm not sure what I think about it yet. Mostly, it makes me miss Life on Mars.

I had the feeling that they weren't too sure about the tone themselves, though it settled down a bit towards the end, so I hope it will continue to do so over the next few episodes. Also, Keeley Hawes got on my nerves. And did they have to lay on the sexual attraction and the period bits with a trowel...?

No faulting Gene and Chris and Ray, of course, and I like the new WPC. And I also liked the way they played with some of the LoM tropes (having Sam's voiceover read by Molly at the beginning, for example).

I wonder what happened to Annie? She wasn't mentioned at all. Maybe she'll show up again? And Sam's body was never found. Why does that make me think of The Master?

The main difference to LoM, for me, is that while I only vaguely remember 1973, I remember 1981 only too well.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I've finally caught up with the new thread, and it's all white font! ::wails::

Not that I'm not going to watch the episode in all good time, but I'll have to wait to participate.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

What is ASHES TO ASHES (heh, typed ASSES first) again?
