DW 4.08: That somehow reminded me of some of the stuff they were doing in the 80s. Like maybe they were trying too hard, because it was not really scary to me. The more it was supposed to be scary, the more irritated I found it, rather than scared.

Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I want 4.08, but its not up on my site yet. =(
DW 4.08:
Windsparrow, really? I was totally creeped out. All that stuff about "sometimes someone doesn't come back" and the idea of the shadows being alive -- I mean, it reminded me strongly of "Blink" in the way it took something maybe vaguely scary to some people and made it TERRIFYING. I got chills when the Doctor gave his line about how almost every culture in the universe has a fear of the dark.
Dana, seriously! Although I thought it was funny how overtly they warned us against spoiling ourselves for the next one.
DW 4.08, so speculation on how the woman who knows him fits in ? I'm enjoying that little bit of mystery .
I wasn't nearly as creeped out by this one as I was by Blink, but I did enjoy it .
DW 4.08, re: JenP's whitefont, I'm hoping she'll be the next companion! Although I also still want Donna around for a long time, so I'm not asking for it anytime soon. I had a brief moment of wondering if she was supposed to be someone we already knew, but grown up, but I couldn't make it fit with anyone (at least from the new series; my knowledge of Classic Who canon is very limited), and anyway, she said several times that this was the first time they'd met in the Doctor's timeline. I don't think it was stated outright, but I thought it seemed clear from the way she spoke to him that they were/will be lovers, but I may be seeing through 'shipper-colored glasses. Did other folks get that vibe?
And just to reiterate, Donna had BETTER NOT be dead for real. Come on, creepy little girl, save her!
DW 4.8 re: Kate P's WF: Yeah, I definitely got the impression that there was a love thang going on from her perspective. I love Alex Kingston, so I'd love to see her as a companion, too, but, same here - like Donna and wish her to stay a while. I'm not sure I think she's a companion, though. I don't know why - it totally makes the most sense .
I assume that being "saved" means that the computer/girl has saved a profile, or whatever, of everyone she could when the Vashdayadayadayada swarmed, so she can regenerate them all at some point, once it's safe. She did the same for Donna .
Yes JenP, I got a very " Teal'c/Scotty is stuck in the buffer" feel for that. Didn't like the pain Donna seemed to be in.
DW 4.08:
Kate, sorry I just wasn't feeling it. In fact in the middle of the ep. I said out loud, "This feels like they are trying for the same fear as "Blink" but not managing it." But of course, one fan's sauce is another fan's dust and ashes.
Also, while it did seem like whatshername from the Doctor's future might have been/will become the Doctor's Lover, it seemed more like a misdirection. It would be too obvious to our limited human understanding, and he is an alien, after all. So all we really know is that at some point in the future she is special enough to the Doctor that he hands over the Screwdriver of Great Sonicness, and makes her think she is quite special. But whether that puts in her Rose's league or Sarah Jane's, we can't tell. I'd bet more SJ than R, though.
JenP, I think the people who have been saved, have been uploaded into the teleporter's buffer, like Scotty in that TNG ep. and can be reintegrated when it is safe. To be honest that idea was something Daniel said as we were watching, and I made the TNG connection.
DW 4.8: The moment that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up was when Doctor Moon calmly informed the little girl that her nightmares were real. That entire speech felt like something the Doctor himself might have told someone. In fact, it got me wondering if--given that we've been shown a future companion--Doctor Moon is the 11th or even 12th Doctor. That would be a lovely, lovely twist.
Daniel, what if there was a vashawhatever stuck in the buffer with her, and the Doctor will be able to stop it from devouring her when she gets reintegrated?
