A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

So, just bad? Not so bad it's good? That's a shame because Jonathan Rhys Meyers is so pretty.

And sounded eerily like Christian Slater in this. But no, not even so bad it's good, IMO. It was a hot mess of steampunk, conspiracies with an ancient order of ... evil oil barons?, and vampires, with character names from Dracula glued on.

I> think I may need to arrange all my copies of Dracula to make a fort to hide in during this show.

Pictures of this are required.

I didn't end up making a fort, because moving all the copies of Dracula would be a pretty big task. But I did cling to one of my copies while drinking absinthe mixed with sparkling wine: [link]

I saw that. Great pic! I haven't joined tumbler, but I follow your tumbler on feedly. The only downside of this is I can't leave comments.

Right? I spent a good few minutes early on trying to place who he reminded me of because it was just so specific. And when I figured out it was Christian Slater I had to spend some time being bemused that he didn't sound like Jack Nicholson.

It gets some points from me for, as far as I know anyway, not claiming to be true to the original or in the tradition of Bela Lugosi or anything. It's just a bunch of made up stuff with a familiar name slapped on and for some reason I am okay with that. Well, willing to suspend judgement for a little while, which is not too far from okay.

I think I like this versions of Renfield. Everything else I don't like but perhaps I am not looking at it right yet. Probably it is just terrible, but maybe not, I'm not sure.

Whereas the slapping on the familiar name is what is sending me into paroxysms of rage. If you're going to call something a "new interpretation" of Dracula, don't just use the character names and ignore everything else! t vampire rantycakes tag will never close not ever

I am clinging to my theory that the migraine I'm dealing with today is because of watching That Show last night.

I think I like this versions of Renfield.

Renfield was the only thing I liked about the show. He needs to be on a better show, and work with a better class of vampire.

Because books.

I loved Renfield. He was my favorite thing.

I didn't hear the Christian Slater when I was watching, but now that you mention it, he did! I was glad we got to hear his British accent, too, though.

I thought overall it was just kind of boring for something with so much scenery-chewing.

I am so down with that.

It was surprisingly boring considering it had girsly murders and opera sex and magical lightbulbs, Amy. Which is probably why I will ultimately dump it.

That was kind of my reaction to "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (the movie, I mean. It is confuing to reference) and at the time I convinced myself that if they had just not called it "Bram Stoker's" I would have been much more all right with it and so I am trying to be consistent in my vampiric film & TV criticism by cutting this version the same hypothetical slack.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

The sad thing is, if not for the tacked-on love story between Mina and Dracula that ate the movie (damn you, Winona Ryder!) it would have been pretty true to the novel. It's the best depiction of the opening chapters in Dracula's castle that I've ever seen.

Despite Keanu Reeves being out-acted by Gary Oldman's shadow.

This is true.

Despite Keanu Reeves being out-acted by Gary Oldman's shadow.

This is also very, very true.
