Right? I spent a good few minutes early on trying to place who he reminded me of because it was just so specific. And when I figured out it was Christian Slater I had to spend some time being bemused that he didn't sound like Jack Nicholson.

That was kind of my reaction to "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (the movie, I mean. It is confuing to reference) and at the time I convinced myself that if they had just not called it "Bram Stoker's" I would have been much more all right with it and so I am trying to be consistent in my vampiric film & TV criticism by cutting this version the same hypothetical slack.

The sad thing is, if not for the tacked-on love story between Mina and Dracula that ate the movie (damn you, Winona Ryder!) it would have been pretty true to the novel. It's the best depiction of the opening chapters in Dracula's castle that I've ever seen.
