I thoroughly enjoyed EoT. Loved seeing John Simm again as the Master. Loved every scene with Wilf and the Doctor. Heart is kind of breaking for him. When he saw Donna, regenerating is like dying, won't travel with anyone, avoided the Ood until he couldn't anymore. Poor noodle. Very much looking forward to Part II.

I realized on rewatch today that it wasn't the Doctor hearing tje drums mindmeld that got to me; it was the Master attacking the Doctor, rushing up to catch him as he fell, ad then realizing what he was doing and letting him fall.

Doctor Who:

Wow, there was so much WTF going on in that episode, I don't even know what to say. The Time Lords are returning? (Although, woo, Timothy Dalton!) I totally didn't see that coming, even though I suppose I should have -- but, um, isn't it a complete reversal of the basic premise of the new series? I don't really know how I feel about that. I can't quite imagine a Doctor who isn't alone in the universe(s). We'll see how part 2 wraps it up, I guess...

I liked the scene with the Doctor and Wilf in the pub, and the scene with the Doctor visiting the Master in his lair (of sorts). I like how protective the Doctor is with the Master, and I'm pretty much always in favor of the slashy best-enemies vibe those two have got going on. And the sound of the drums, and the four knocks being the Master's heartbeat! But I was not so much in favor of the Master flying around on waves of magic electricity everywhere.

Also liked the Doctor's line at the beginning about all the rambling around he'd been doing trying to avoid the Ood. I was thinking that line would explain all the adventures he'd had with River Song, which presumably we'll never see, so when he said he got married, I expected he meant to her. But if he meant Queen Elizabeth, then... I don't know.

Oh, and I also liked the two minor characters at the burger stand, Some Guy (Tommo?) and Ginger. Those are the kind of characters that I love about this show; they felt real, and interesting, and odd, but not just for the sake of being quirky. I wish they'd lived longer!

I have to say that I think I much prefer the smaller stand-alone episodes, on balance, over the grander stories, the specials with all their end-of-the-world-again dramatics. I understand why they structured this year the way they did, with all the specials, but I'll be glad to get back to the regular episodes next year.

Oh, I forgot about the River Song loose end.

I guess they wouldn't, but I really hope they would solve this. The Doctor deserves to be loved, on screen, by a lot of people.
