What was the deal with the focus on Obama? It seemed sort of out of place.
'Never Leave Me'
Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
In the extended close up bit at the end of the show, RTD said that he felt that he couldn't ignore something as major as the election of Obama, so he decided to use him instead of a made-up President.
It felt weird because they've pointedly used made up leaders of countries up to this point.
Seska, I like your speculation even more than my own.
And I have to take something back. Donna's ma DID get Masterified, so at least part of my notion is already wrong.
We just rewatched it (there's nothing like the Master chomping down on a whole turkey to put you off your dinner). It's growing on me, as an episode - being able to fast-forward through the scenes I disliked helped there. Mostly, I noticed that there was more of Tennant and Cribbins than I originally thought, and that everything they did was wonderful.
Speculation-y stuff: If the Time Lords were cowards and went into hiding to survive the Time War, the Doctor is going to be thoroughly pissed off.
About your speculation-y stuff, Seska: I got the impression that that cabal of super high up Time Lords were looking at the situation from their position in the past and that they're reacting to a prophecy, blah, blah, fishcakes. Which then goes back to The Doctor being so insistent in "Waters of Mars" on how some points in time are indelibly fixed and cannot be changed. Ergo, no matter what they do, they're still gonna croak. Because RTD can be a bastard like that.
What day does Chuck premier?
Lo, lo and behold, for I have time to reply!
Yes, sorry. But these extra 20 minutes to log into b.org and read all were unpredictable, and the urge to talk, talk, and talk some more about the Doctor was STRONG.
Now. As for "What I Watch TV for": on the very broad scale, I couldn't care less about "facts", "holes in the plot", etc.. That's because I watch TV to see relationships. I only care about the stuff I just said I didn't care about if it's regarding the characters (esp. the one I like), the way they act, and their relationships. God knows that my life doesn't have any rational cord I can follow at times, so the best I can do is follow myself. So that's the focus I'm looking for.
Plus, we've never been closer in the new series, IMHO, to subtext-ed gay porn. The look on the faces of the Master and Doctor was the definition of "pining".
Second, I love your speculations. Can't wait to see what will come up next. Giving my approach to TV shows, and not the look after the facts (and it's not that I don't understand you there - it's just not what I'm looking for), that was one of the best Doctor's eps, giving the emotional scope.
The unaired season 1 Fringe episode will be shown on Monday January 11th.
