Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

"We're all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

Re: bonny's speculation - It's a long shot, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did something like that. *Something* is going to be very different about this regeneration. The Girl and I were talking about the possibility of Wilf being a future incarnation of the Doctor (he's unwittingly met with future incarnations of himself before). Not likely, but you never know!

In terms of why Donna doesn't change (her mother does, doesn't she?), that has to be because she's part Time Lord. It's going to be interesting to see how they use that.

The anagram is fun, but if it's intentional, it's for internet fandom, given the 'WTF' - I can't see them highlighting that like they did with 'Yana' standing for You Are Not Alone. They do like their anagrams, though - Torchwood was used on Doctor Who tapes as code for the show, apparently, long before they decided to do something with that name. So you never know how far back they thought of this. (Or it's just a coincidence. :P )

Trust my rage

When have we seen the Doctor tear up like that before? I don't recall having seen him quite this broken and down, even about Rose.

I don't think he has, which is why the moment got me so much. We've seen him scared before but not broken and usually not about himself, only others.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

I got so hungry watching The End of Time that I had to hit pause and nuke some turkey with all the fixings. And I'd already had two bowls of a very delicious fish stew.

How did the doctor get knocked out when the master was kidnapped? I thought he was shot, like, with bullets (I had a vision of the last two hours of Ten's life being "and is this how he dies? Nope. This? Nope. And now?"). Did he actually just trip and knock himself out?

“Not dead yet!”

Whereas I may never look at a whole turkey the same way again. John Simm had way too much fun with those scenes.

At least it was more bearable than Denethor? gnoshing on cherry tomatoes, what with the bursting of flesh and the juice dribbling down his chin.

What was the deal with the focus on Obama? It seemed sort of out of place.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

In the extended close up bit at the end of the show, RTD said that he felt that he couldn't ignore something as major as the election of Obama, so he decided to use him instead of a made-up President.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It felt weird because they've pointedly used made up leaders of countries up to this point.

Compassionately intolerant

Seska, I like your speculation even more than my own.

And I have to take something back. Donna's ma DID get Masterified, so at least part of my notion is already wrong.
