Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Wait... they showed Water of Mars in the US and I missed it?

Yeah, Theo, Saturday night. I only caught it by chance. They'll surely air it again.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

::sniffles::

And here I stayed pure so that I could catch it on American broadcast!

You're ALL on notice.

Art Crawl!!!

I'm sure it'll be repeated before the first part of the Xmas special which is running on the 26th.

The 26th on BBC America.

Mark your calendar.

That's my birthday!

Of course, I'll most probably be at a relatives' house that does not receive BBCA. Such is the cruelty of the wintry holidays.

It's due to air on the BBC in the UK on the 25th (pt 1) and 26th (pt 2). So both eps should be ahemable well before January. If that helps at all!

I'm concerned because my mother wants to serve dinner at 5pm on Christmas Day, and Doctor Who is on at 6. We may end up watching it on the BBC iPlayer back at the hotel at some ridiculous hour of the night on Christmas Day. The hotel had better have wireless internet.

Two words, Seska: dial and up. This is the Catskills house where they can only use satellite TV because cables don't go up their road....

Hmm. My dad lives in place like that in Deepest Darkest Hampshire, but he lives there permanently, so he got bored and got satellite broadband. How long are you there for, Theodosia?

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

FFS, he has The Moffat at his side, people. The Moffat. This guy can write some shit that leaves me at the edge of the seat, heartbroken, craving and begging for more. I thought I'll never get used to Tennant after Eccleston, and the former became my favorite Doctor after 20 minutes on the screen.

Indeed. The "Blink" and "Empty Child" episodes of "DW," the "Lesbian Spank Inferno" episode of "Coupling," and the entire "Jekyll" miniseries ... the man has done some of my all-time favorite television, so he gets a benefit of the doubt. Hell, he gets the benefit of several doubts.

Not that they could without ending the show, but if he knows he's just going to pop up somewhere with a new body and some different personality quirks but the same memories and basically the same person, what is really the big deal about "dying"?

I think it's fundamentally a mistake to minimize the effect the regenerations have on him. Even if he's never really expressed, one way or the other, how he feels about them or how they effect him, they're not something he does lightly. I think, in a very real way, that might be a lot like dying, every time.

Twelve regenerations. Thirteen incarnations.

Indeed, but the Master beat that.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Consider that his past incarnations have tended to view and refer to each other as if they were different people, some of whom did not get along. There are some pretty fundamental changes going on inside, and I think any given stage of the Doctor's life would regard the regenerarion as an end of sorts to himself.
