and Minearverse is like 2 kajillion per day of late too.
I happened in just as he was posting, and the fan in me was like "wheee!" and then the sci-fi guy in me was like "oo, he's posting in a thread named for him. Doesn't that mess with the time/space continuum some how?" But the Fan "wheeeee" wins out.
He was posting first. His thread came later.
Re: the question about resources. Resources are always an issue, since we pay for everything ourselves. In a narrow sense, no, this particular thread doesn't cause a resource problem in and of itself. However, in a broader sense, we have much proven that we fill any volume we define. Which is to say, if the thread exists, we will talk. So any thread is a part of overall resource consumption, for which we pay.
Part of what you're seeing is coming into a years-long discussion about how we use our resources, and how we define our community. There is some overall concern wanting to provide a process for how we manage the process of creating threads, using threads, and closing threads. It is partially philosophical, because of issues like this, where each thread becomes its own discrete subcommunity, a process which could conceivably happen ad infinitum. Fostering community, fostering our conversation, providing for the long term health of the boards, those are all things we want to be thinking of as we make our individual decisions.
Anyway, there's not really any us and them, much as a voting process makes us feel like there is. There really are only Buffistas, with differing opinions. Which is pretty normal for us.
Also, hey, that Firefly show. That was pretty nifty, huh? Cattle in space!
Yeah, I think part of the thing which came out of the voting process for this one is the sense some people had Firefly isn't part of the board -- and I was thinking, if it goes to vote, it's a majority rule. If it wasn't here from the beginning, it doesn't matter, because over time a majority of the posters and voters aren't going to have been here from the beginning anyway. I really do think the proliferation of extra topics is just a sign of a site's base shifting, and that's quite normal growing pains.
Of course, the other aspect is Firefly is this crazy show which won't die, even though it's so very dead right now.
Cattle in space!
How do they breathe in space?
(eye roll to infinity)

Thanks for the clarification Liese. It does makes sense. It wasn't until deep in discussion that someone finally said it wasn't as black and white that I relaxed. (I was still afraid of the vote but relaxed.)
and that's one of the nifty things about this board to me: its community. But I'm one of the shy people at the edge of the cool kids' crowd: there's no way I could keep up with Natter.
Agreed I'm really digging the thread even more. Much love to all's of ya'lls. I'm the opposite of Omnis in that I tend to keep up with Natter first, then Bitches. And it is occasionally weird "floating" amongst people with so much back history but it's more of a testament to the group more than anything. And yeah you see some more prominent than others but that's just life. Though I don't say as much in other bigger boards I'm a big talker irl.
And yeah (heheh) this show just won't go quietly. (Especially in an Alliance friendly bar come U-day!)
um. ah. well. about that. um. Ya. like. I don't go in Natter. NO OFFENSE! It's just. well. I tried to subscribe to all these threads, and I was like "whhoa dude! can't keep up". But I really loved the people. So I decided that it was best to pick a couple threads and try and keep up on them. So, I got about 4 in my Message Center that I check, plus the ones in the right sidebar.
On IMDB somebody is suggesting a hunger strike to get Firefly back.
Possibility for a Darwin award, that one.
Oh wouldn't that be precious if someone died for a cancelled TV show? I mean sure it's Firefly but I picture Bobby Sands punching them in the eye up in heaven.

You should tell them that's what the writers' strike is actually about.
I was gonna tell/remind them only 14% of the world's population has a tap in their own home. But I like that idea better.
