Damn. A witness said there was bumper-to-bumper traffic, and at least a 100 cars were on the bridge.

That's what I'm wondering. There were construction crews working on the bridge before it collapsed, but they were just resurfacing it, so that shouldn't affect its structural integrity.
This will probably go down in history as a major engineering fuckup....
