the phrasing of the ballot is up to the framer (you). you can have it on or not - there is not rule requiring it and no rule disallowing it.

OK. And to think I just wrote it and forgot to put it in. I'll leave it, a straight yes or no.
Let the stompies go forth and do do that voodoo that they do so well.
Wow. That was...wow. Thank you for coordinating the poll, msbelle and poll posse. I learned a lot. Reading the comments was especially eye-opening. I'll need to digest for a bit before I can comment more specifically than that.
Oh, one thing I noticed--I got confused by the "essential thread" percentages at first. Just wanted to point out the the percentages next to individual threads are based on the number of people who chose that thread; i.e. if four people picked B'crxy and two picked it as their first choice, there will be a 50% in that column. I found it a lot easier to ignore the 1st, 2nd, 3rd thing and just look at total numbers of people who picked each thread to get a better sense of overall preferences.
Seeing the whole thing out there... the effort you put into pulling the whole thing together is damn near heroic. Thank you.
Have to read and re-read and ponder. Some of the comments are making me all prickly and defensive, which is somewhat less than useful.
Poll ees eeenterestink.

Same here. That confused me at first as well.
I'm fascinated and amused by the poll results. The comments in particular.
I agree -- really fascinating stuff in the comments at the end.
The one that pinged me in particular was the accusation that we are a "closed community." I think it was meant as a jab, but for me, that closeness is one of the reasons this is my primary internet home.
Also interesting that Boxed Set came in third on the most-essential threads question. I wouldn't have guessed that before.

Jabs can be true.
