I just looked up the date. This all happened when I was in second grade, in Pomona CA, and my youngest sister was just under 2 months old.
I don't remember hearing
anything
about this. I don't remember my parents talking about it. I remember Cassius Clay beating Sonny Liston, but not this. Huh.
Oh, and I had a question: the sermons that Fr. Colin Hanks gives - all in English. Would that be in addition to the mass? (Was mass still in Latin at this time?)
And another - was that a "Milltown" that Betty's salon buddy offered her?
That was a tranq, right?
the sermon was always in english, as I recall. It's one of the only parts that wasn't Latin. I think the homily, might have been in english, too.
Oh, I have to go to bed, but I want to watch it all again!
The actual Mass would've been in Latin until 1964. The first Sunday of Advent in '64 was the first time any of the Mass was recited in a language other than Latin.
And yeah, a Miltown was a tranq-- a fairly mild one.
Thanks, Barb. I thought it was too early. Oh, Betty in the bar scene.
Must doublecheck that it is Capt. Awesome.
I do think quester's right though, that the sermon would've been in English.
