Maybe I disagree with everyone.
Though I thought the finale fell just short of being perfect, I loved the ambiguity, and I have a very hard time looking at it as simply "Sam woke up, was too messed up to go on, and killed himself." The creators claim that they never intended it to be ambiguous about whether he was actually mad, in a coma, or back in time, but I think the show itself never really answered that question, and I much prefer it that way.
I am dubious about the spinoff, but we'll see.

You see the ending as ambiguous--the three choices not ruled out being the ones you noted? Coma, crazy, actual time traveller?
I'm not sure how that works in my brain, but it does.
However it works, it's also working in mine. That is to say, I loved it as well, despite my issues with the ending.
I love that it keeps me thinking about it. I love(d) this show, and my hardcore gut reaction to the ending sort of speaks to my emotional investment.
I love that everyone has a different take.
I love that I can see other ppl's pov, because nothing fits perfectly. No matter how I interpret it, something's not quite right, logically speaking.
I feel like I've been processing this all day. I can't get enough of it, and I'm so sad that it's gone.

It's certainly a show that demands a very emotional response, that's for sure. I love reading other people's takes.
I'm also dubious about the spin-off (especially after the dreaded phrase, "think "Moonlighting"), but we'll see.
