My tv is scary old. I suspect whatever replaces it will be high def. I just am waiting until it has lived its life fully because I am cheapcheapcheap.
Yeah, me too. I'm hoping my current tv (which I got for free ten+ years ago) lasts until it is absolutely necessary to get a high def set.
I have now had several extended non-work conversations and at least one extended work conversation, and it's still not five?!?!? Cripes.

I still feel like it's not that old -- it came with a remote and everything!
I bought mine used almost (not not quite) 10 years ago, for $40 from a rental place offloading its leftovers. Every so often it does something freaky, like cycle on-off when I first turn it on, or decide to tint everything deep rust red. But cursing and turning it off and then back on again still works as a solution.

TV stations are phasing out analog broadcasts. TVs with analog receivers will need converter boxes.
From Wikipedia: "In the United States by no later than February 17, 2009, all U.S. television broadcasts will be exclusively digital, by order of the Federal Communications Commission...."
Is that the same as high def?
No. All high-def TV is digital, but not all digital TV is high-def.
