sometimes, people use racially insensitive language without really parsing it, like the time I was talking to a very nice girl about bargaining at a flea market and she said "I jewed him down to $5" I couldn't hide the look of horror on my face, and she said "what?" I pointed it out to her and she was truly shocked. She had never really thought about its origin, and that's just what her family said. This also happens in foreign countries where they don't realize the connotations of certain words.

I pointed it out to her and she was truly shocked. She had never really thought about it's origin, and that's just what her family said.
I never knew the origins of gyped, including the spelling. Or "Mighty white of you." I thought it refered to knights. I still have to bite my tounge on that phrase when someone does something nice, but not so nice it's knighthood worthy, and they're kinda pushing to be thanked.
