I can also fully understand why, if everyone else is humming along, IH wouldn't want to tweak on our behalf, and that home-grown code is always going to be suspect.

Hmm, well that's weird. I was reading a page, minimized it without clicking to another, then I pulled it back up to continue reading and the background is gray! Did I do something weird to change the background color of this site? My other web pages don't seem to be affected.

I'm pretty sure our problems are caused by a race condition in MySQL that can cause the count of connections per user to be incorrect. I sent a mail to the mysql internals mailing list asking about it. I'll let y'all know what they say.
