I adore that keyboard

I also adore Craig Ferguson. He never makes any bones on his show about how he was an idiot with the alcohol back in the day. He makes it seem funny instead of preachy. His recent interview with Peter O'Toole was something else, with both of them discussing the things they probably don't remember while under the influence. Plus O'Toole started talking about one time he was in Scotland, Ferguson said, "I'm from there! Did you see the whatzit?" and you could just hear the LA udience going, "Oh, god, they're going UK old home week up there." I loved it because, well, Peter O'Toole, being sardonic, and Ferguson, going "I'm talking to Peter O'Toole!"

I think admitting you were and are an alcoholic who considered suicide is an embarrassing personal admission, not a boast.

I see the discussion of himself as separate from his revelations and how he plans to handle certain celebrities from now on. I admit, the first time I heard about this, the alcoholism was redacted. So that colours it, although I'm trying to adjust--certainly the bulk of that twelve minutes was about himself.

I don't consider the admission embarassing myself. Difficult to make, perhaps, but not embarassing. This may be the result of coming to know people who say simply "I can't take that class. I have a meeting." And it's just that. They have a problem, they have meetings. End of drama.

But onto the celeb thing. I think it's incredibly weird for a celeb to suddenly realise other celebrities are people. You or I might think we'll never meet any, and can treat them as a separate species in our heads and in our speech (although I refuse to, adamantly). But he's one of them. That admission irritates me,

He made fun of his rehab roommate in his spiel. Britney's out of bounds because she's not sober yet? What makes them different from each other?

Most irritating of all, though, was his audience that laughed when he'd told them he wasn't making jokes. They just waited for space and then laughed. It took way too long for them to get the point.

As for K Fed being funny and Britney not...I'm still not sure why. I have no reason not to think he's a fucked up piece of work that is toxic (no pun intended) to himself and people around him. I just don't get the same air of pathos.
