This will probably be my OTC, once I get the moolah to get it done. I don't trust anyone but Erika to do it. And she's a spendy one. But totally worth it.

Spike's Bitches 34: They're All Slime and Antlers
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Hec, have you ever thought of putting your interest in short hair to professional use?
But then I'd have to charge you for all this advice.
Okay Hec, there's a challenge for you: find me hairstyle options that will work with my aesthetic and NOT involve me getting all my hair cut.
It would take a bit of investment in time to master the techniques, but I would point you towards things like the classic French twist or have you scroll through Vintage Hair and find good examples of rolls. I think you could do some very cool Black Dahlia looks.
This gal has some interesting and elaborate rolls
eta: Oh cool! She's a hairstylist in Dallas who specializes in vintage looks
Here's some cool forties hair, and rolls-in-progress on Flickr
Another forties look - you might try sweeping your bangs
Or maybe a fancy Herringbone braid.

My hair is now at shoulder length, but I can't make it be smooth with cute flippy ends. My hair is thick and basically straight, but full of random waves and cowlicks. It is also, for the first time in my life, dry. I don't know if it was chemo, age or hormones, but I went from very oily hair that had to be washed at least every other day to hair that is very dry, so it has that lovely fried look. Anyone have any miracle shampoos or conditioners?
What do I want for lunch?
Ginger, I have very dry hair. I really like Redken's All Soft Shampoo and conditioner. Also, if your hair has a problem with humidity, try Redken's Smooth Down. The Body Shop's Brazil Nut Shampoo and Conditioner are good as well. I also like Nexxus Therappe Shampoo with Humectress Conditioner. (I tend to switch up my hair products to avoid buildup)

Absolutely. I'm still trying to figure out how I got so lucky.
IOmemeN, my next apartment will have laundry facilities, and it will be on the same floor as the apartment. This sucks.
CUTE haircut, Aimee!
K, here is my shortest cut ever, circa 1991 (I'm on the far right) [link] Another short one circa 1995 [link] I was obsessed with a Kate Hepburn shot I had purchased recently and was trying to recreate it all over the place.
Meatball sub!
I think that Dallas hair chick may be a friend of a friend. Does it say where she works?

Jesus, you're cute!
Another short one circa 1995
Why would you ever think of growing it out when it looks so good on you short?

man I wish I was coordinated enough or had the patience to do something like that to my hair every so often. My two styles are down (and, if I take the time to dry it, blown out super straight) and up in ponytail. Both are cute but I think I could rock a 40s style do.
I do not like the herringbone braid. It freaks me out for some reason. Like it belongs in the domain of the hippy ladies with the freakishly long hair.
