I've done project work both ways...sometimes by the completion, others by the hour. It really depends on the sitch.
Right now, I'm teaching a women's group a three session course...that's half up front half at the end.
Last week, I managed aspects of a cross country move, that was hourly (and yet to be paid...)
Recently, I designed and implemented a major 'caper' for a corporate client that included 90 employees and a multi-day learning event revolving around a series of fake bank heists. That one was hourly.
eta: I should add that lump sum is not really my friend because I do more than I should in each new contract. Everybody gets custom work and I end up spending more time than I estimate.
Which sounds like a faux answer to one of those interview questions..."My weakness is I just work too hard..." Pathetic.
But, usually, it ends up being true. I've got to learn restraint...and to develop a plug 'n play something or other that I don't reinvent every time.

that's what I suspected. You should charge by the hour. Though it's a pain in the ass, because you need to keep track of exactly what you're doing, but you end up getting paid for everything that you do.
Right. The upside though is that the to-do list becomes the timesheet.
The best case scenario for me would be for some, interesting and dynamic company to realize that they simply must have their own Counselor Troi...that she is going to make all their lives easier/better in exchange for a quite nice salary, benefits and access to a car when they need her to use one.
I'll even pass up the pony for that one.
Also, you're coming over on Friday to watch Slings and Arrows with Juliana and us and possibly Lee.
Aroo? Friday? Fridays are No Good for me. It's my one consistent shift.
I go to PHAT Tuesday with C+C Music Factory, Rob Bass, and.. Digital Underground.
AWESOME.

Okay. Um. Saturday? Sunday? Some day?
AWESOME.
Right!?! Though I won't be able to do the running man
or
the roger rabbit since I hurt my back.

Saturday? Sunday? Some day?
Saturday, I will be at a concert with Lee and Suzi. What concert, you ask? BOB SEGER, say I, whilst squeeing and jumping up and down.
Ahem. Sunday, however, is very good for me.
Though I won't be able to do the running man or the roger rabbit since I hurt my back.
Tragedy!
You people crack my shit up.
Sean, my best to you and S. I hope that the fall didn't have lasting consequences.
Like a velociraptor!
Toddlers do seem to be a lot like velociraptors. Almost as smart as a human, but with a more cunning type of intelligence. An awkward gait that still moves them pretty fast.
And I'd be gating those stairs.
Oh, they're gated, but that won't stop him without supervision. At the very least he will throw all his toys down the (hardwood and concrete very loud) stairs. And there's a little landing that he could conceivably climb over and fall 25 feet onto concrete stairs.
I'm going to look for the lever-knob kits when I'm in the States Saturday. Today he opened the front door and headed out.
Raq - have you thought about those "invisible fence" shock collars like for dogs?
Aimee won't let me use one on Emeline, but you may have a more...progressive thinking spouse.
t narrows eyes
I'll give you progressive.
