Which seems remarkably ... sexist or something.
How do you think?
I wouldn't want a man to want *me* just because I looked like I had childbearing hips and could wield a mean whisk, you know? So getting turned on because a man can fight, or looks like a Big! Brawny! Man!, seems a little ... reptile-brained to me.
Edited to add: But I know these things aren't always rational. And it's totally my thing -- not saying anyone else is reptile-brained. It's like I want to want a skinny, brainy librarian, but I wouldn't unless he pulled a Ripper like Giles.
Ooooh, spicy. Did I tell you I re-read the Aeneid while I was in Joshua Tree, and Papa Winchester is now my One True Aeneas?
Oh, man. Everyone on this board is so much smarter than me.
After I write entirely self-indulgent Dean/Ellen effed up PWP of pain, 'k?
I will definitely want to read that.

I can see what you mean, but (and this may be pure self-justification) I've always thought that having a Type is always a little reptile-brained. I also think humans are hardwired to respond a certain way to a certain appearance (which appearance provokes which reaction varies, of course). It's not like you're clubbing them over the head and dragging them back to your cave - you just have a very deep appreciation of a certain Type.
Basically, Attraction is reptile-brained. It's how you act upon it that is important, I think.

(considers proposing changing the thread title to "Winchesters' Bitches")
You'll never get Spike away from my thread till you pry him from my cold, dead fingers.
Or we pry you from his?
Yes, that's a very workable plan. Probably better than mine. Make it so.
I think juliana is right.
What's funny to me is that I would have always said my type tended to dark -- still would say that, except I've been married to a blond for going on 13 years and all my most significant men have been blond or redheaded, save my high school sweetheart whose coloring was exactly like mine -- very fair, light eyes, dark hair.
Amy, don't fret. I'm not even as smart as you.

Exactly! That's what I was trying to say. That, and that I'm sort of ashamed of my reptile brain, I guess.
Also, despite my ideal Type, Stephen is big and fairly brawny, but the idea of him in a fistfight makes me laugh and laugh and laugh. He's a nice guy, through and through, with an ounce of the Bad Boy anywhere.
Everyone on this board is so much smarter than me.
To be honest, vaznetti on LJ sparked the re-reading with her post on why John is the Roman's Roman. Is very crunchy and tasty, her thinking.
headdesk headdesk headdesk
Apparantly the storm has brought the basement flooding back. And the sump pump was decidedly *not* installed at the lowest point of the floor.
GOD, THIS FUCKING DAY.
Basically, Attraction is reptile-brained. It's how you act upon it that is important, I think.
I agree with this, and I don't think there is any reason to be ashamed of our reptile brain as long as we can defend our actions. TCG is pretty much my ideal physically, but I don't think that is the reason why we have stayed together. I didn't hurt with the initial attraction on my part though.
