Spike's Bitches 34: They're All Slime and Antlers

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

OTOH, the people at The Biltmore last night were ... interesting. M and decided it was a pimp convention. Until we saw the sign that it a memorial so we decided it was a pimp memorial.Seriously - the men were all dressed like Flavor Flav and the women? All of em AT LEAST 5'10", a size 2 (if that big), and dressed ... interestingly. My favorite was the one with a full length mink coat, Dr Zhivago fur hat, and silver sequined mini dress. Craxy.

Was it possibly a memorial for Anna Nicole?

What is even happening?

beth, I was so excited to read Matt's good news. All the best to him (and for you -- Scott is so much happier now that he's out of his prior, unhealthy employment situation, and even a bad day in his new situation is worlds better).

HIVEMIND: How long does it take the body to metabolize a glass of wine (probably 4ish ounces)? How long would it take it to metabolize two glasses of wine?

I am getting a prescription for an antibiotic, but I had a very Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, and dammit, I'm having a glass of wine, first. I know I can't drink while I'm on the antibiotic, and won't, but I figured I'd delay the first pill 'til after the wine has worn off.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

How long does it take the body to metabolize a glass of wine (probably 4ish ounces)?

On average it takes about an hour to metabolize each 6 oz. glass of medium body wine. The more you weigh, the lower your blood-alcohol-content.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

Thanks Cindy. I have no idea how this job is gonna fly, but He won't be traveling and he might get bored. less job stress should let him be healthier - and give him the chance to do all the bazzillion other things he likes to do.

and for I 'd give it an hour for 1 possibly as long as 3 for 2 glasses. Of course, if I feel like drinking when I am sick, I do. If I am to the point of antibiotics, I rarely want a drink.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Happy BIrthday, SUZI!

Robin, I am sorry you need the more invasive of the surgeries but glad that there is relief in sight. You have suffered too much and it is nice that soon this will all be over. And, of course, you have a wonderful husband and friends to coddle you through the first of the recovery time. Think of the dvds you'll see.

Of course, I was awaken at 7 by my mother calling to find out if I had slept. Um...yes, but I guess no more.
One of my least favorite calls, I have to say.

I did finally sleep. Slept in too late but no big. It was even good sleep. It was just at the wrong time sleep.

What I have learned: Healing tattoo, so far hasn't bothered me a bit. Wee blister I got yesterday because I of some shoes, has not stopped annoying me for the last 24 hours. Ima go barefoot from now on. Who's moving with me to an island?

Matt gave his BigBoss a list of skill set. Matt was impressed with himself - BigBoss blanched.
Go Matt! Sad that they will only really appreciate him after he is gone though.

My boss looked at me and said, "Whatever were you drinking, you had too many."
Heh.

I blame the fact that they serve champagne with tea. That's what got us going!
We had an after work going away thing for a woman I used to work with and we started drinking champagne. I got home very late in a cab and felt like hell the next morning.
DxH asked what I'd been drinking.
Champagne, I replied somewhat weakly.
How much did you drink?
All of it?

Hey. New board.

Going back a bit to the bit where somebody (Cashmere?) linked to this article about teacher mentors...

I expect I'll leave after 4-5 years. But it's not just because I think I'll be fed up and frustrated - if that were the case, I'd just transfer to a cushy job in the suburbs or a magnet school (which lots of good teachers at urban schools end up doing, yet another factor in the huge turnover rate at tough schools) and teach a BC calculus course to overachievers while coaching the Academic Decathlon team.

Mostly, though, I just don't think I'm likely to do anything for more than 5-6 years. Variety is the spice of life and all that. I want my life to involve at least five different careers, and possibly at least two or three more degrees. Linguistics, modern art history, theater production...

Hey. New board.

For Joan of Arcadia fans: Amber Tamblyn is apparently a big partier or something?

I think we'd get along. She should call me.

It isn't that they don't appreciate him - It is more that they don't really understand what his team does, and that due to a number of issues, ( Matt is the only person on his team w/ any degree is only one of them),they are very inexpensive. and experience with bothe the tech and talking tech to people who aren't tech - or only know bootstrap tech , or day to day tech is a big skill.

DH came up with a way for his team to make money. the $$ could have paid for trainning, a new person, and added to infrastrcture $$ budget. plus a bit of profit for the co. and it was steady $$ - in a project based business. he was told " the client doesn't want it " - which actually they did - they were just getting it for free. and if ( when ) the clients have to go outside for this kind of support- they will be paying 3 to 4 times what DH was proposeing.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I'm trying to decide whether to go to Shabbat services/dinner tonight. There's a dinner that I signed up for that I want to go to -- interesting program, and a bunch of people I haven't seen in a while are going to be there. But, I'm still not feeling that great, and I know that my stomach will not be able to handle the kind of food they usually serve at these things.

(Also, there are a zillion Jewish-community type things that I want to discuss with people who'll actually care, and some of the people there will, but I'm not sure I'm quite up for getting dressed up and across town right now.)
