Bev, much coping-ma.
That sounds an awful lot like what my Mom went through when my Dad sucummed to vascular dementia. The only saving grace was it was only about 6 months between him being reasonably himself and it being over (since the vascular kind has a much shorter onset-to-over span), but that's a terrible thing to have as a saving grace.

(((Bev))). You're allowed to feel sorry for yourself every once in a while. Sometimes, it's easier for me to get over it and do what I need to do, if I indulge in a bit of self pity.
Some of my relatives have been trying to tell me that my grandmother's been getting mentally slower. On the one hand, I can see where the stuff she's doing looks like classic beginning stages of dementia, on the other she's one of us which means things like giving mouth to mouth to a fish, freeing all the bait crickets and worms, or vaccuming at 3 am so you "won't disturb anyone." (All things done by members of my family who no one suspects of losing their minds).
Thanks, guys. Sane is good, I like it.
Well, except for the inventively, creatively crazy. You know, the sort that relieves the monotony of the everyday and makes a person giggle. That kinda crazy I like.
Oh, Bev. That's so hard. And you not feeling one hundred percent on top of it sucks.

I think, "Meta me there," is possibly the best part.
The meta was my favorite part as well. The rest I might take a red pen and edit, but the meta stays.
{{{Beverly}}} I wish I had something helpful to say or coule drop by and help out or something.
Bev, I'm gathering up a whole box full of Harvey purrs to send you for the Best. Warm-Fuzzies. Ever.
Daisy, I think the main thing is to compare the person to their own norms. It sounds like that might make quite a challenge in your family, as doing wacky things for reasons that seem like a good idea at the time appear to run in your family. For me it hit home that my mother's mind is seriously not what it used to be when my sister informed me that mom had not been brushing her teeth regularly. Mom used to go through a 5 minute oral hygiene routine after every meal, wouldn't do anything else before attending to that. If that's slipped, that's some major slippage. I dunno if there is an easy way to translate that to anyone else's quirks.
