Beej, that's wonderful!
I am con-Napoleon Dynamite without ever having actually seen it. The previews I've seen and what I've been told by friends leads me to believe that I would hate it, and probably want to smack everyone in the movie.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I think it's a very conventional film about an ugly duckling, but because of the deadpan narrative tone, kids saw it as hip and modern and took it to heart. It isn't special, but it's great fun. That being said, it has some fantastic lines, fun vignettes and I love the ending.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, to be honest. And I definitely liked it better the second time I watched it. It's just very silly, and I have never read any of the director's thoughts on how special he is, so you know... Mac! That dude from Drew Carey! Tots! Um.
I've never seen it, and have some friends who adore it, but every single clip I've seen (except maybe the dancing) has made me not want to see it in a HUGE way.
Plus, it sounded like a movie that was trying its damndest to become a cult movie (and which it succeeded at, apparently) which is a bit of an irrational peeve of mine, though I'm sure several movies I love fall into that category for other people (THE BIG LEBOWSKI comes to mind, but, then, so does almost every Coen Bros. movie if I really think about it).
Napoleon Dynamite: Pro or Con?
I couldn't make myself watch more than about 20 minutes of it, despite more than one attempt, so I guess that makes me con.

Go team irrational pet peeve!
(Though for that particular one, I'd lay the blame on MTV, who ran just about the most irritating marketing campaign in the history of marketing for it.)
I didn't like it, but I have issues from riding the little bus to school.

This is me. I haven't been able to make myself try.

Heh. I didn't even hear about the marketing of it until later apart from the newspaper ads, which where annoying (and I never saw any of the MTV stuff), but that was what I took from the buzz that came out of Sundance. I recall it was positive buzz, but it was the kind of positive buzz that had me running for cover.
Man, if I didn't have Robin on my side I'd feel like the giantest dork in the universe. But I'm OK in this sex-aay (if sparsely populated) corner!
ION, WILL THIS DAY NEVER END!??!?!??
