oh dear ... I saw this and all I could think was "I thought they could fly!"
DED of teh Kyoote!
although, I had to wonder why a water bird would lay eggs in a tree, but whatever.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Ducklings! So cute.
Vortex, possibly the answer is the one I use so often - "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
eta: maybe THEY thought they could fly?
God, ducks falling are the funniest thing ever.
Okay, the funniest was the last one, who bounced once and landed on his feet.
Hello procrastination, my old friend...
I just now realized it's cute overload and not cute overlord.
I liked it better when I thought the adorable fuzziness was taking over the planet.

To-MAY-to, To-MAH-to.
Baby ducks are brave.
When you build duck boxes, you make them kind of tall above the water so that passing alligators and so forth can't get into them and eat the eggs or hatchlings. Similar principal for nesting in the tree, I guess. There's a short film (Flight of the Mergansers? Something like that) that documents one nests journey from egg to first flight, and ends with all the ducklings plummeting to the strains of Die Valkyrie. They landed in water, though.
I remember seeing that duck film. It was awesome.
