How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

We started all this to simplify things and yet ensure that every voice that wishes to, be heard. Even though I absolutely trust ita (for example) and would agree with 99% of the things she'd say; I don't believe voting her in (even if she didn't threaten to kill me for doing it) as my representative, would ensure that I would be heard. Also, it's too bureaucratic. Also, since the people I'd want to represent me (if I wanted it) would be the ones who absolutely hated the idea of having that power, so it sets us up to be represented by the people who want that power -- and that's a bad way to go, IMO.

Hello Wolfram. How's the wife? I haven't posted with you since you mentioned you're expecting a bundle of joy in June.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Because one of the one things we have consistently resisted is the idea of having "special" community members. We balk at the terms "high-status", or "true Buffista". Even the Stompies will insist that just because they have the power to white-out posts and close tags and do other nifty stuff, they're not any more important than anyone else. When we start electing representatives, we've firmly moved out of Cocktail Party Land. And I like it there.

HELL YES.

Because some of us, a LOT of us, HATE HATE HATE the idea. We hate it here, we hate it in real life. Why did I buy a house not a condo? Because I hate crap like that. I hate the notion of Elected Officials.

Fuck. That. Shit.

I came here to avoid that kind of mentality.

I stayed here because that kind of mentality didn't exist. Because it WAS like a cocktail party.

Eventually, I became one of the people making beer runs. Because I could, and I was there. I'm not special, I just have the keys to the supply closet. I don't want a system of closet monitors and power structures.

Our wings are not tired.

I appreciate the thought that you're putting into this, Wolfram, but you're swimming upstream here.

Also anti-officers. Nothing more to add to the discussion. I do think the vote/poll to clarify majority is a good idea.

You've got friends to have good times with. When you need to share the trauma of a badly-written book with someone, that's when you go to family.

Not at the current membership level.

Please see above re: Betsy's post. We aren't deciding how much we're willing to invest in road maintenance or the tourist advertising budget, and the gazillions of posts on policy are making my eyes bleed. If we get more hierarchal than "Hey, would a Stompy close a tag?", a lot of people are going to go elsewhere for their fun.

Because one of the one things we have consistently resisted is the idea of having "special" community members.

Okay I totally get this. What I'm trying to do is have the membership imbue a few members with special dispensation to bitch, moan, harangue, argue, scream, wail, and stomp on behalf of the rest of us. That's the limit of power. No special status, no front row seats, no pedestals, and no power to moderate, censor, ban, or otherwise effect the goings ons in the threads. These would just be the guys who hammered out the details. Which, in my opinion, really does go on now when it comes to everything else relating to the board. We could just make it official, and then stop taking everything so seriously.

Hello Wolfram. How's the wife? I haven't posted with you since you mentioned you're expecting a bundle of joy in June.

Hey Deena. Yeah, we haven't crossed paths much. The wife's doing well, thanks for asking. How's your little one?

Please.

The membership levels? Not that many more regular posters than at WX. We already had 300 or so before the mass immigration here, and most of the new regs are lurkers. Old people slide off, new people slide on.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

Eventually, I became one of the people making beer runs.

This might lighten the mood a bit. Or piss people off more.

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

I have to say that, despite having voted for voting, I have no decided to resuccitate my inner anarchist.

As such, with all due respect to your honorable ideas wolfram, I cannot support any notion of representation. I'm already starting to think that are previous anarchy was preferable to even the tiny modicum of democracy we've started here.

But this is just my $0.02, other Buffistas agreeing with me notwithstanding.

If I only had a brain...

In many of the threads I visit, people are saying "What's going on in Bureaucracy? I'm afraid to look." And people are replying "You really don't want to know."

This is a really bad sign.

I honestly think that the solution is not to find better ways to make decisions more efficiently. The solution is to stop picking at the scab for awhile.
