I hope you don't think that I just come over for the spells and everything. I mean, I really like just talking and hanging out with you and stuff.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Jon's argument that a music thread would be too tempting and draw him into further discussion does not sound compelling to me.

I know I'm not being rational. Hence my abstention.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Banned? Fuck you with a rusty railing and no lube.

coffee all over keyboard.

Ah, Allyson. You go, girl.

I tend to agree with Allyson. Except with fewer cuss words. I definitely don't agree with FayJay's "2 warnings" idea. I think the process is drawn out enough as is.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I prefer one warning, suspension and banning.

After one warning, a person is allowed to change their behavior and also defend it (and in the act of that defense prove that they are reasonable and understand the objections which have been mounted).

After a suspension, they are allowed to come back. They can also defend themselves.

As Allyson notes - we don't have to bend over backwards. We're welcoming and inclusive and we're civil but if you can't hit the ground running or if you don't lurk first and learn the culture or if you are unresponsive to a warning then that is your responsibility. We're not trigger happy with the suspensions. But we should never have to feel uncomfortable in our own space. Nobody should have to abandon a thread because somebody is being an asshole there.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

If some piece of waste decks you in the mouth and takes your wallet, you would put out an ad in the paper inviting the shithead to your home to explain him/herself? Maybe make him/her a pot of tea?

With Allyson here.

Enough newbies found the thread here. He could have. There's fair and there's asking for trouble.

there is something to be said for the lyric and imperial attitude / believe that everything is for you until you discover that you are for it

Just for the record - really no porn in Natter.

Porn Thread! t /really just joking I agree with the no NC-17.

I vote yes for music. I would be nice to have a place where specific questions wouldn't get lost. I'm sure they'll turn a bit nattery and develop sub-cultures, but I only regret that because there's no way I could catch up in them, and I want to read everything.

And nobody wanted to say to "Michael" that it's OK make a personal attack on James Cameron, but not on Allyson, because James Cameron's not a poster on this board?

But that of course brings up the question -- what should we do if he wants to sign up?

Oh, and is two months set in stone? Does that seem too long to anyone?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

What Allyson & PM said.
