Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

One of the partners in my lawfirm was made a judge. His secretary has been given my attorneys.

The secretary who left earlier this week was half sec/half office assistant. She made about 10k less than me.

I've been laid off.

I walked the two blocks from my office to that of darling Tom Scola and, quite literally, cried on his shoulder-- thanks Tom. Atkins has been called off for the moment, I have a bottle of frozen vodka in one hand and a popsicle in the other. My sister is coming into the city tonight to take me out. I may be lurkish for a while, I don't know. For now the Great Midwestern Buffista and Ice Cream Tour is cancelled. I guess I won't be going to see Air Supply at the Westbury Music fair but that was dorky anyway. Notes, chocolate death-bombs and offers to make sweet, sweet love to me gladly accepted.

Nobody

In GOOD news, I got big-ass promotion today! I applied for this job seven weeks ago and was sure they were giving it to the other in-house applicant, who is 2 years younger than me and very sweet and kinda dim--but a demon-fast captioner--but, surprisingly, no. I get a big enough raise that I get to quit my other job, thus adding many more hours free to my week, and I do less captioning, which should make my arms quit aching. I am VERY pleased.

I'm management now, baby!

Frail my heart apart and play me a little Shady Grove

My already darkish grey is going inky until I figure out what this new icon is on my PC here at work.

If any Buffista knows what a "Remote Management" icon is for, please email me at my profile addy.

I think they're watching me.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

On my way out the door for my job interview! Wish me luck!

Mr. Scola’s wardrobe by Botany 500

At 6:00pm this evening, I will be interviewed by the co-op board of the building where I'm attempting to purchase an apartment. This is a ritual that is common in New York, but mostly unknown in the rest of the country.

Please send me co-op-ma, calm-ma, good-neighbor-ma and any other kind of -ma you can spare.

I'm going to Sydney to see my sister in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and to visit friends. Back Sunday. Likely to be mostly dark until then.

Herding cats for fun

Going dark for two weeks of vacation featuring outdoor recreation. If the weather cooperates (no afternoon thunderstorms), I get to go inner tubing down the Colorado River. Whee!

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

OK. Need BIG TIME positive vibes.

There has been a major development with the magazine I've been working to launch.

Tomorrow I have to talk to someone who may be able to launch it.

That's all I can say. But if anyone's got any vibes, I can definitely use 'em.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

My grandma is very ill. We are going to L.A. to visit her tomorrow because I think waiting until Friday will be too late. She is dying of kidney failure and will likely go into a coma soon. I am grateful that I get a chance to say goodbye. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated. And the support and everything I already have from you has been wonderful. Thank you...
