I got the job! I'm starting Monday. The job (and the salary, alas) aren't perfect, but I'm very pleased to be employed again, and the people seem like they'll be a pleasure to work with.
If the Apocalypse Comes, Beep Me
Birth, death, illness, new job, vacation...if it's happening to you and you want us to know about it, post it here. These threads are intended for announcements only. Want to offer sympathy or congratulations, or talk about anything? Take it to Natter. Any natter here will be deleted.
Hi all Buffistas. A good friend of mine in Quebec and from another Buffy venue has had cancer about her spine. They thought it was all in remission or gone, but it came back and was very small, so they operated last Friday before it got worse. While she was under general anesthesia her heart stopped, but she made it through and was home already Monday.
They aren't sure if she will walk again, but they have decided they need to go in and repair the nerve damage again tomorrow or the chances will be slim to never.
Please divert any Buffista vibes from me to her, as I think I can stand being unemployed a little longer.
Frell, and I haven't heard anything about my niece Tina's surgury scheduled for today, either.
I got into grad school!
Come this fall, I'll be enrolled in the Master of Liberal Arts program at the University of St. Thomas. Whoo!
Yay, Dana!
I'm going dark for a week for a vacation to the Grand Canyon. Also, I have a job interview the day after I get back, so if you have any vibes you were going to toss anyway. . .
Moving from Press:
Both my neice (neck) and my friend (back) have had successful surguries and are already out of the hospital, recovering at home. The neck I expected, sending home a back patient? Not so much.
It will be a while before my friend with the back surgury knows if the walking part is going to happen.
Not to burden anyone with down news but merely to explain in case I vanish for a bit: Joanne's father has been very ill for several years, and critically ill since February. 18 days ago Joanne made the decision to have his feeding tube stopped, but though we expected death to follow rapidly, amazingly (and really, unfortunately) he continues to hang on. However the end is clearly near, and it is quite possible he'll die on Tuesday (in which case I'll catch a taped version of the final Buffy as soon as I'm able). So if I don't chime in on the last episode Tuesday or Wednesday, that will be why.
If the Buffistas care to send any vibes, vibe that he doesn't die next Friday, which is J's birthday. It would be a shitty thing for her to have to think of his dying every birthday from here on.
Going dark for the next four days. While DH is doing actuarial convention stuff, I'll be lying on the beach drinking rum drinks and net access is an unknown factor.
I'm taking my Introduction to Biostatistics final exam tonight at 7:30 pm EST. Test-ma would be so very appreciated.
Grayer than expected -- so if some one needs to get a hold of me ( say Kat about F2F money) email is best
Some pictures from my UK trip. Arranged roughly in chronological order.
