Feels a bit like the apocalypse came.
If the Apocalypse Comes, Beep Me
Birth, death, illness, new job, vacation...if it's happening to you and you want us to know about it, post it here. These threads are intended for announcements only. Want to offer sympathy or congratulations, or talk about anything? Take it to Natter. Any natter here will be deleted.
Some good news - I got married in June. Two hours later there was a stay on the court decision that allowed it, and they tried to tell us we weren't married anymore. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals laid that bs to rest (if you haven't read excepts, it's terribly entertaining).
Dan's stepfather, who had been hus SF since D was 6, died of a heart attack tonight. He was in his 50's. He was an avid hot air ballooner who had JUST bought another balloon that you sit in in a harness, and was SO excited to try it out come spring. He was a superlative cook. And a nice, nice man. Dan is devastated. His mom is a wreck.
We will be leaving town soon.
I just needed to share. We don't have much info yet, but we think he died at home. Dan's mom is calling as soon as she picks uo her other son from work and gets...wherever.
We have to tell Micah tomorrow night.
This week. Sucks.
I'm LA bound! Would love to see you, next Weds through Sun, deets in F2F.
Hey, with so many people coming back to the thread, we should take the time to update the Buffista Map! If you haven't updated your spot in a few years, do so now. If you're not on the map, put yourself on it. (and to those people that I have seen posting something along the lines of "I'm not a regular" or "I'm not really part of the board", I say pshaw! If you post (or lurk), you're one of us. So, update away!
Vortex, could you give the link for the map and any pertinent instructions to help that along, unless it's self-explanatory?
Juliebird (and others), you can set your location in your Set Profile area.
The link to the map is in the left-hand sidebar. (You weren't expecting it to be that easy, were you?)
Copied from FB, because I am so. damned. tired. I will catch up on ita's information from the last couple of days a little later today, but we just got home from 4 days in Iowa.

My father-in-law's memorial yesterday was lovely; well over 200 people came from 1-5 pm. Dan and I are both utterly exhausted but so, so appreciative of all the kind words proffered us by so many people.
It was a grueling last week for both of us...I'm so mentally exhausted and I got so sick on the drive up to IA Thursday, and still feel punky -- I don't know how to say how grateful I am for the support of family, both mine and Dan's, and of friends near and far.
Thank you all so much. You are loved.
(Also, some-interview-ma for 3 p.m. CST would be awesome. The reason we had to leave at zero dark thirty this morning is because I had to reschedule a phone interview for a potentially very exciting copyediting gig for a national corporation and adding them to my client list would be a coup. Thanks!)
