If the Apocalypse Comes, Beep Me
Birth, death, illness, new job, vacation...if it's happening to you and you want us to know about it, post it here. These threads are intended for announcements only. Want to offer sympathy or congratulations, or talk about anything? Take it to Natter. Any natter here will be deleted.
The pooch has been here for a couple of hours and I am torn so badly, I don't know what to do with myself.
Photos: He's a Mastif-Basset with a huge head and the sweetest eyes.
I can certainly manage any behavioral stuff. He's super, super sweet. Just a big lovebug. He's been good with all the dogs and people on the street.
He is currently sacked out, quietly snoozing.
So sweet.
There are problems, though, that I think means we won't work out. Nothing behavioral...he's a doll baby.
Structurally, however, it's a real problem. The last time I saw a dog with conformation this bad, he had to have both of his front legs broken and realigned.
I can't imagine him having to climb up and down my many stairs for the rest of his life.
Also. And this sounds absolutely horrible, even to me...he drools a LOT. When I was introducing him to people, they cooed over how adorable he is, but as soon as they touched his head, they kind of recoiled with a 'yuck.' I wear a lot of black...slobber really shows up.
His energy is actually too calm. He doesn't walk quickly and would not be up to doing demonstrations in workshops, I don't think.
Ugh. This is heartbreaking.
eta: One terrifically good piece of news is that I really am ready to have a dog again. It felt so good to be on the street with him, feeding him and just being in his presence.
David said it best, I really need a dog to be happy.
I just wish this little guy was the one.
Sweet journey to my baby, Mickey, today. I had to put him to sleep this afternoon. I miss him like crazy and it hurts more than I thought. I feel like I can barely breathe.

Hi! So the cat's out of the bag a little already, but I wanted to share that M & I got married yesterday, with Lee officiating.
Briefly - My health insurer (KPS) is shutting down all individual plans. To get new health insurance I have pass a standard health questionaire that screens out people with existing conditions. No way I could pass that. There are exemptions from this, but plan termination is not one. KPS has just made lot of people uninsurable To solve this, the ledge has unanimously passed a law adding termination of an insurance plan as reason to be exempt from the questionaire. Now up to our Governor.
If you are in Washington State, please Call or Fax Governor Christine Gregoire
Phone: 360-902-4111 | FAX: 360-753-4110
Ask her (very very politely) to please sign SB6412 which adds
termination of an individual insurance plan to the reasons someone
seeking health insurance can be exempt from the standard health
insurance questionaire.
Given that it passed both houses of the legislature unanimously she will probably sign it, but you never know for sure with politicians and a wave of phone calls saying "sign. sign. sign" won't hurt, and might make sure no last minute changes of mind occur. I just learned of it when I called the State health insurance commissioner's office this morning.
And we need health care for everyone, not just those lucky enough to be able access private insurance. Single Payer now! But in the meantime, keeping a bunch of people from losing what health insurance they have is worthwhile.
