All is well that ends in pizza.

---- How I spent my Valentine's Day evening (Con'td)

Today, I forced myself up early, after watching Stargate and Farscape before going to bed at 4 am.

Cousin Steve and I headed out to the junkyard and I bought a used alternator, then stopped by the auto parts store and bought a water pump.

That and miscellaneous stuff: $100 or so.

Frell, and that's without getting things installed. Could have been worse, the alternator new costs over $100 itself.

And to top it all off I missed a night with my Buffy chat groups.

Sigh.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

My photos of today's peace march in NYC.

Technically, the march permit had been revoked, and a rally permit issued in its place, but that couldn't stop New Yorkers -- we marched anyway!

DH, my sister Megan and I marched from 3rd Ave/60th street up to 70th St, over to 1st Ave, and back down again to where the jumbo-tron was showing us the speakers (who I think were down on 1st Ave/51st Street, but we couldn't get close enough to see). On the news, I heard that people were marching from as far down as 34th St.

I haven't seen a head count for NYC yet, but the news said that 6 million people around the world were protesting the war today. Let's hope it worked.

----Car Update---

Oops. Not the water pump. (Yay!)

The radiator has a hole in it that spews out directly in front of the pump, through the fan when the fluids are under pressure... Causing the appearance of a water pump leak.

Looks like I might be getting a ride to work Monday, so my radiator can be removed, pressure tested and repaired.

Frell.

ps: Car is at least somewhat drivable right now, so I'm going to get some stop-leak for $7 to see if it helps.

hip deep in pie

Just a dash into say that I've been dark since Thursday basically with project madness, and now I'm visiting my folks. The show is piled up higher than the first story of our house, and it's $#%ing cold. So in the odd case that someone is looking for me, i'm only keeping up with Atlantic Canadians until Monday.

Remember, remember/the fifth of November/the Gunpowder Treason and Plot/I see no reason/Why Gunpowder Treason/Should ever be forgot.

Bwah!

I love snow!

DC is under 20 inches, and I just drove back through the still white out conditions on I95, where barely two lanes were open and a 30 mile trip took 75 minutes!

So I may be a little behind. I still have to clear a space for my car.

Damn, major snow emergencies are fun!

No, really. Feel the like the finale of Due South, searching for the outstretched hand and all that...

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Well, we're back in D.C., but it wasn't easy.

Sunday morning we're at the con and run into some other folks from D.C. They tell us that all the airports in D.C. are closed, due to the snow. After much wrangling we confirm that our flight is indeed cancelled, and we rebook for 9 am Monday morning. After more wrangling(involving phone calls while at the Somerville brunch) we find crash space for the night. We get up early(having called a cab the night before), but discover via phone call that our flight has been cancelled. As the Boston forecast is calling for a lot of snow, we decide not to wait at the airport, and head for the train station instead. We get on an 8:40 Acela to Washington, which finally gets to D.C. around 6:15 pm.

Meanwhile, we've learned that the Metro is not running to aboveground stations...which includes National, where the car is parked. We also discover that there are not many cabs out, so we have retreated to my BF's cousin's house in Capitol Hill. Tomorrow we get to dig out the car and head home.

Too much adventure in my life.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Jobma in my direction will be much appreciated tomorrow - I'm interviewing for a position which I think I have a really good shot at, and I'm also sending in application materials for another position which I'm less likely to get but which would be something of a dream job. My luck I'll get neither or both. But both would be preferable.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

I feel like one of those guys the next cubical over who keeps asking to borrow a pen every day, because he never has one of his own. (Always a guy, never a woman.)

I just e-mailed the place I hope to get hired by, asking for a time frame. I'm hoping of course, that rather than giving me a time frame they will say "you're the one".

Anyway asking for jobma vibes one more time on the same job as the other fifty times I've asked. Thanks for your understanding.

And jobma vibes from me to Brenda ~~~~~~~~~~~`.

Mostly lurking...

My little brother, Jon (21), has to have surgery on Thursday. He has been getting cysts, and they want to remove something (cyst track maybe. Boy…I’m showing how well I listen, huh?) to make it so he won’t continue to get them. My mom is flying to Chicago tomorrow to be with him. This is when I hate being so far away. Vibes, thoughts and prayers sent Chicago-wards would be appreciated.
