I have a job teaching middle school math and science. This may surprise those of you who remember that I wanted to teach high school math, but there you are -- school starts next week, and I really need a job.
But this way I get to use bright colors and posters and have maybe a little more childish fun with the kids, so there's that.
I am nervous as HELL and excited. Thanks everyone who's been crossing their fingers and encouraging me.
(ETA: I only just saw all the -ma. Given that it was my very first interview, and they decided not to bother with the applicants they were supposed to interview tomorrow, the -ma must have been working overtime. Thank you all SO much for your encouragement. It means a lot.)
Mostly for Bay Area locals, but feel free:
I just went looking through my closet for a little black dress, something uncrushable that can be rolled up in the suitcase and worn out to dinner, or for parties, with my Jimmy Choos. I didn't find one.
However, one thing led to another, and I now have a pile halfway to the ceiling, of clothing to give away. This pile runs the gamut from Wilson's leather trousers (ranging size 8 and up a few sizes), evening wear (and I do mean evening wear) that my boobs will never speak to again in this life, several pairs of tailored stretchy trousers that are for some reason too damned short on me these days, ranging from size 6 up, DKNY and Ralph Lauren dresses (mostly in size 10), coppery velvet in a size large, sapphire blue velvet ditto, some stuff from CP Shades, Dolce & Gabbana jeans in a 6....the list goes on.
I don't want to give this to the Goodwill; they've had piles from me before, and this is very good stuff; some of it is edging on couture. However, the thought of separating it out and listing all of it - no. Really no.
Anyone here want some? I'm waving this mostly at the Bay Area locals, mostly because I haven't got the time to pack things and shlep to the post office for at least another ten days. Also, I really don't want to be responsible for a lot of shipping charges - people tend to forget about those, and when we're talking ten different boxes to all over the country, it can add up in a hurry.
Let me know, FAST, profile addy. If you want a look, or want some, I'll put it aside. But I leave for Anaheim Thursday, and anything not pinged by then gets sent to charity.
I'm going to be mostly dark(I may get to check my email regularly, but not much more) starting tomorrow as I attend LACon.
I'm still pretty dark where B.org is concerned (y'all move too fast), but I enjoy my sightings of various buffistae on gmail chat and LJ.
I'm dropping in to say that a friend of mine is one of the main organizers of The Browncoat Ball in SF this year and would much appreciate it if y'all would attend.
Requesting healthy pooch~ma.
Bartleby is wicked sick. TMI details:
He began throwing up yesterday but was able to eat some chicken and rice last night. This morning, he projectile vomited like I have never seen. Seriously...4 feet stain on the rug.
We went to the vet for xrays and bloodwork. No visible obstruction, which means it could be pancreatitis or something mysterious.
Please vibe for just a very, very expensive tummyache.
I can't even express how everything he is to me and, when his things go wrong, I don't cope so well.
My mother's husband just passed away.
Please keep Wayne Fawley in your thoughts and prayers, and my mom as well--they've only been married for 16 months, but he's made her very happy in that time.
Just talked to Emily. She's in her new place, but has no Internet. She's got her first day of classes tomorrow, so send her much luck and ~ma.
I'll be dark this week--the funeral's on Wednesday, so I'm driving out tomorrow with my uncle.
On Saturday, I moved into my own apartment. That, in and of itself, is enough upheaval and excitement for one week.
Today, I have, finally, been made an offer to be a full-time employee as Medical Writer, Drug Safety. I've been assured this would happen for the past two months, but it's nice to see it in writing. This company has never had its own in-house medical writer. My work is revolutionary! As an employee, I would make a little bit more (let's say 9%) than I've been making as an intern, and I would get all kinds of crazy benefits like the mystifying stock options and the surreptitious free counseling.
I have until the end of the week to accept the offer. It's a tough decision, though. I mean, do I really want health insurance and vacation days?
At the airport, yay free wireless! Vibe us safe, good, & uneventful flight and a good trip, to and fro, please.
