Well, look who just popped open a fresh can of venom.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

It's official (at least according to our weekly rag), Mr. H's bar is the place to take people visiting Dallas. I think the last line of the article pretty much sums it up. [link]

Our wings are not tired.

We could use a big dose of health~ma and common~sense~ma for my MIL. After years of problems we finally hassled MIL enough to get her to get checked. She reluctantly agreed to a procedure to remove a polyp from her uterus for biopsy although we had argued with her to not waste time and just get rid of the bothersome parts. Well, the biopsy came back with a cancer diagnosis. The doctor wants to do a radical hysterectomy taking surrounding nodes and so forth due to the test results. MIL hadn’t seen her GYN in 30 YEARS and is now still fighting me saying she needs a second opinion. The kids are going to visit her tonight to explain to her that this is worth missing a few weeks work and that she needs to get to the fixin’ part now. I am very grateful that her doctor made her call someone from his office. (That was me) No doubt she just would have hid the whole thing from us otherwise.

So I guess I am asking for a dose of wisdom to help find the right words to talk her into taking care of this quickly, then a big wave of recovery~ma. Thanks.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Just to say I've been a wee bit dark, while up in Edinburgh (saw Serenity on the 24th) but am now back in Egypt. Think 'puter access should be okay, but no idea what my workload will be like - if I'm going grey, it's just the new job confusion.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

These words might look familiar:

I have what looks to be a phone interview, even though he never used those words, with the hiring manager for a medical writing position in Kansas City. It's at 9:30 PM EST. He's calling me from his hotel room, on a business trip. Which seems like a good sign to me, at least, that he would offer to do that. I could use all the spare job-ma there is, in addition to some slow-down-goddammit-ma. Maybe some don't-say-something-stupid-ma. If it goes well, I get to fly down there and fuck up a real interview.

Thanks again to dcp for making it all happen.

Compassionately intolerant

Congrats for all the good news and a quick request for Please-let-her-be-safe ~ma.

A friend's mom drove away from her home in NoLa, right into the path of the storm and has not been heard from for too long. We are hoping that she and her companion are just holed up somewhere riding it out. All collective wishes to that effect would be greatly appreciated.
