Gus: Race is apophenia run wild.
Coffee On My Monitor
This thread is for Buffista quotage. Posts that are profound, witty, or otherwise deserving of immortality go here. This is also Shrift's source for the BRQG, so be aware that if your words end up here, they'll also end up there. Finally, please note which thread spawned the quotage and please white-out anything that might be spoilery to Un-Americans.
Allyson, in the Firefly thread:
It's like, sometimes, when the whole world seems turned upside-down, and my faith in humanity has run into negative digits, and the path is filled with brambles, and all seems hopeless, i turn to face the mirror and ask, "What Would Buffy Do?"
And then I kick the crap out of someone and feed them their own spleen and fuck a really cute boy who is no damn good for me, everything becomes right with the world.
Matt the Bruins Fan:
What I know of my genetic heritage is all English, Scottish, and Irish (presumably Black Irish), but a few years ago when I had a deep tan I was rejected for a date by someone who refused to go out with Hispanics on general principle. I started to argue the point before realizing that I wasn't terribly keen on dating a bigot whether the bigotry was misplaced or not.
Natter:
tommyrot: My cat once killed a silverfish and then meowed at me to say, "fix it!" My cat apparently thinks I have the power to bring insects back to life. Hey, I can turn lights on and off, and open doors that my cat can't, so in his mind these things are probably equally miraculous as raising the dead.
Rio: What's Young Americans?
Hil: Summer show on the WB a few years ago. Took place in a boys boarding school, where one of the boys was actually a girl, two of the boys were in love with the same girl, there was something about how that girl might actually be the half-sister of one of them, they spent lots of time shirtless for no reason whatsoever, would occaisionally all strip and jump into the lake in slow motion, and drank lots of Coca-Cola(TM).

For Burrell:
If I had a little baby Frannie, I would
kiss her little toeses
eat the little toeses
marvel at the tiny fingernails
make her hold onto my finger so I could marvel at how small her fist is
marvel at how big she's gotten
make zerberts on her tummy
ask her mommy if she's old enough to be tossed (not letting go!) in the air to make her squeal
watch her while she's sleeping
HAND HER BACK TO MOMMY WHEN I"M DONE
MechaKrelboyne, on the book's trip through Mordor, in RotK:
Just so. 'It's cold. We don't have much Lembas left. My shoulder hurts. This ring is heavy.' When I read it the first time I would keep stopping to wonder if Tolkien was doing it deliberately to try and make reading about it as mind numbingly horrible as doing something about it. Now, I'm just. 'Yeah, suck it up and march, Shire Boy. Let's get to the good stuff.'
In the Firefly thread:
Kate P.: Re: languages in the Firefly 'verse, IIRC Joss or someone says in one of the commentaries that even the poorest/least-educated/lowest-class folks of all races can speak fluent Chinese (are we assuming Mandarin? I don't remember if it's ever mentioned). Am I overstating the case?
MechaKrelboyne: Nope. It was a very clear statement of 'everyone speaks chinese'. I think I recall hearing trailer trash referred to (which takes my mind to very cool COPS of the future place where the Feds are yelling "YOU ARE BOUND BY LAW!" While some scrawny guy tries to pull his gun while trying to get his stolen car out of the ditch, all the while yelling "Gao yang jong duh goo yang".)
In Movies:
Fred Pete -- I'm not sure From Justin to Kelly deserves as bad as the Razzies gave it.
Megan E. -- I kept hoping for a sequel, From Ruben to Clay but alas, it wasn't to be.
billytea in Natter:
This is my fourth winter in Philly, and I haven't fallen on the ice once. Naturally, now I will slip and fall as I go home tonight, for I have tempted the gods, who after all have a pretty basic sense of humour.
