I knew about 1., but my reaction to 2. was ugh. I don't trust Fellowes to handle something like that well. And my friend and I actually did a "Oh no they DIDN'T!" double take when her screams blended into the opera solo.
I spend a lot of time yelling at the TV when Downton is on. And yet I can't quit.

I agree. Mary was driving me nuts. And Lord Grantham was being right old twat about including her (rather, not) in the plans for the estate. And I continue to completely distrust Edna (though Branson...tsk tsk tsk...former chauffeur or not, power differential there) and Jimmy.
