Dana, no kidding! I've seen much worse, but that aspect wasn't good.
And Fiona, I totally and completely agree about the
shift in Sherlock's personality. Last week, he was delightfully cringe-worthy. This week, his asking for a pen just seemed jerky, rather than quirky
.
I do like Watson being less hang-dog though and the addition of
the potential love interest
was welcome.
She's as smart as the fellows
and a quite good foil.
Dana, I attributed that aspect to being a leftover from the original stories. It was all a bit Victorian.
Sure, and I think that was especially obvious with the
fight scene at the very beginning.
But if I had my choice of what they were going to take from the original stories, it wouldn't be that part.
Steven Moffat writes in the Guardian about his favourite Moriartys (or should that be Moriarties?):

Non-spoilery.
Also, an article about the updated Sherlock in general here:

They're certainly building it up....
I'm going to be travelling later this month. I'll be in:
Amsterdam from 21 August to 24 August,
Oslo from 25 August to 27 August, and
London from 28 August to 02 September
...and I'm thinking seriously about taking the train from London to Paris for a day-trip, probably on the 31st.
Anyone in the area interested in meeting F2F?
Have fun, dcp!
Sherlock
last night was pretty impressive. I liked
Moriarty
a lot. Didn't know the actor at all, but he was very good.
That trip sounds amazing, dcp. I'm potentially around on the 1st and 2nd of Sept. 2nd is better, as I'll have just come back from my big festival camping trip of the year, so might need to shower and sleep on the 1st.
dcp, I'm actually going to be in Boston from late August until the 5th of September, so I won't be around! Sorry! Thoroughly wonky timing.
Sherlock - Fiona, I loved
Moriarty too. I recognise the actor's face, but he's Irish so I may have seen him on tv at some point. He reminded me of John Simm's Master in DW.
It's funny because the majority of the folks on the Guardian boards hated him, but I thought he was just right.
The only thing I found a bit jarring was
how young he looked. But then he and Holmes are meant to be contemporaries, so it does make sense.
