Happiest birthday, Clara! I hope it's full of delights.
Thanks, everyone! I think she had a good day, though it was a bit overwhelming at times. She scored some brilliant pressies, including a CD player, so we now have "In the Night Garden" on heavy rotation.
Awww... Clara is THREE!!!
Glad it was a happy.
B. started school yesterday! (They don't start until 6 here, and he's six-and-a-half). It was pretty exciting, especially as they make an enormous deal of the first day. Here is a picture of him with his "Schultüte", the big roll of cardboard filled with goodies which all schoolchildren are given when they start school. He made it himself, hence the dinosaurs:
Now we're just waiting for reality to set in. (He can already write and read up to age 10 level, so we have the feeling he might get a bit bored.... We'll see).

Oh my GOD, he is adorable! I love the dinosaurs!
I'm glad he gets to have a big deal made! What a cutie!
Is this kindergarten or first grade? For that matter, I don't know when reading/letters starts in America these days -- don't remember a whole lot of it in my kindergarten.
This is first grade. He's just finished three years of Kindergarten, i.e. preschool. They don't learn reading and writing there either usually; he's self-taught.
3 years of kindergarten! We only got one year, I feel cheated.
I caught on to reading pretty fast, and what one of my teachers used to do was excuse me from the drills as long as I sat quietly and read to myself from the bookshelf. Hope B. finds a similarly enlightened teacher!

That's interesting. In Australia, preschool and kinder are separate.
