Anybody around who speaks German? I've got a question in Natter.

I need to buy some sort of gift card/gift certificate for an older woman in Thailand. Anyone have tips on what I could get that would not use up most of the card in shipping? (I.E. if I gave an Amazon certificate would half the value end up being used for shipping to Thailand?) (I was going to give Skype minutes, but I have had my Skype account for less than three months, so am not eligible to buy them. It is supposed to be a security thing, but I don't really get that. How is letting me buy a gift certificate more a security risk than letting me have an account?) Anyway I'm hoping that Fay or someone will have some advice.
Would like a translation into USA-ian for "Turf accountant" because what comes to mind is "bookmaker" and that doesn't seem like something Hyacinth Buck-Kay would be jazzed about, even given the sauna and the Mercedes and room-for-a-pony.
A turf accountant is a bookie - perhaps she has a gambling problem.
Any Buffistas in London these days? I'm going to be there end of July through the first week of August...
Typo - you still trying to figure this one out? Because it might be easier for me to go and buy something for her and post it from here, if you like?
I'm not sure whether Paragon Department Store or Emporium do Gift Certificates, but I wouldn't be at all surprised - they're both super swanky places and there'd be something there she'd like, for sure.

Aha! Yes - this: [link]
Alternatively, a quick google brought me this:
Gift certificates for a hotel, which she could exchange for spa treatment/delicious meal/whatever?
Sorry Jon, but I don't think so. jim has moved away too.
Ahh, too bad. Where's Jim these days?
Thanks Fay. I think one of those will work. Her birthday was yesterday, so I got a friend who has been on Skype long enough to qualify to buy vouchers to buy one, compensated friend with a check, and emailed the voucher to her.
But I'll definitely use one of these next year. Probably Emporium: since she lives in ChaingMai I don't think a Bangkok centric gift makes sense.
I'm really irritated at the Skype "you can't buy vouchers until your account is three months old" rule. I'm still trying to figure out how that can possibly prevent fraud.
Sorry, Jon, I am currently in London (well, near London), but a) am very busy, and b) will be gone by August.
