"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Very happiest birthday for Clara! Smear some cake on your brother while you're at it.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Happy Birthday, Clara!

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

I'm glad you are OK Nilly. Also, I hope my friend Terese's cousins in South Lebanon are OK. There were various reasons fleeing was not an option for them; their only vehicle was a truck which would have been considered by the IDF to be a legitmate target, and they really are in no physical shape to walk across the desert on foot. Also to my friend Simona's mother in Israel. (Simona is an Israeli expat living in the U.S.) Simona's mother is extremely stubborn - refuses to go to shelters in her neighborhood. She says "I'm 75 and if it is my time, it is my time. I'm going to stay in my nice house and not be miserable in an uncomfortable shelter." Which understandably terrifies Simona.

I just heard on the news as I was eating my breakfast. Oh dear. You kind of thought nature had given him a free pass on that kind of thing.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Oh, the horror! And the inevitability. But still. Darn. I had a real soft spot for him, bonkers as he was.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

And stingray deaths are kind of rare. I know he put himself in this kind of danger, but...I liked him. Wackiness and all. He didn't appear to have a mean bone in his body.

I shed a little tear watching some of the footage on TV. His poor family. Imagine having a dad like that, and never getting to know him. I feel bad for the 3 year old.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

The most fascinating thing about Steve Irwin for me was his passionate commitment to animal conservation. There was a quote floating around a lot of places about how he was willing to do anything, if it meant saving an animal. And while it ended in his death, I still think that's really respectable.

In other news, you can buy anything you could possibly ever want in Dublin. While it is very much a 'European' city (some say indistinguishable from others) it has a charm all it's own. I was a dumbass and left my nalgene bottle on a pharmacy counter last week sometime, and was able to acquire another one fairly easily at Outdoor World, which is an *awesome* store.

I like this city.
