Just dropped by to mention Canivale, which is the first thing to capture my attention on tv in ages. True to form, you're all over it already.
I'm not! I'm thoroughly engaged. I thought the two Babylon episodes a few weeks ago were incredibly absorbing and dark. That last shot of her in the window was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Ooh, I saw that at a Miyazaki film festival last year. I thought it was great. I also saw My Neighbour Totoro, which was unbelievably cute and uplifting.
If you liked Nausicaa and Totoro, I'd highly recommend this DVD box set: [link]
Considering you get 11 or 12 films, it's not very expensive. Some are better than others, but they're all beautifully done.
I have that box set, but I should point out that it's bootleg.
It's a very well done bootleg, though. I didn't realize it until after I bought it.
I had no idea! How did you figure it out?
I found out from one of the fan sites. There's no way you can tell from the packaging. It's very professionally done and quite brazen.
The quality of the video is excellent too. It's really only down to a moral issue as to whether one should buy it.
Interesting article. The only thing he mentions that I noticed was poor subtitle synchronization on one of the films (I've watched about half of them). The video quality has seemed fine to me otherwise. As for the poor translations and misspellings -- who among us has not seen a poorly translated Japanese film in the theaters?
That is a thing of beauty. I don't really have a problem with bootleg, but our DVD player is pretty temperamental and I wouldn't trust it to work, even though it says its regionless. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll write it down for future reference.
Yay! Sky One is finally showing
The Peacekeeper Wars
on Sunday!
For which I have managed to stay largerly unspoiled, miraculously.
