You're talking to Serenity. And, Early... Serenity is very unhappy.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Ick. It's not a freestanding first hour.

Ick indeed and no, it is definitely not a freestanding first hour...or a freestanding second hour for that matter. It's bad enough that we get it at 1AM but now this...ugh!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Ick. It's not a freestanding first hour.

Well, no, but it does end on a cliffhanger specifically for cases like this.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

But it's not a good one hour episode.

It has Wash and the dinosaurs! What more do you need, really.

lalalalala... I can't hear you!

I know what you mean P-C but it's sacrilege. It's like screening the first half of the Grand Final, or FA Cup, or Superbowl one night and the second half the following week. It. Is. Just. Not. Right.

Well, they did it. They actually broadcast "Serenity Pt 1" and it abruptly ended right after Mal opened the box and said "huh".

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Well, it is a WTF moment, so I guess it might be OK. Far better than editing the whole damn thing down to an hour like they did to show the critics.

To every idea a shelf...

Speaking as someone who has managed to stay almost completely unspoiled for all things Firefly, the cliffhanger worked OK for me. I was more bothered by the fact that the weird screening order ruined much of the episode's suspense. But I guess I'm preaching to the choir who wrote and starred in a short film entitled 'Preaching for Dummies'. I'm starting to understand the unhappiness that pervaded the boards around the time these were airing in America.

That's what they did in the UK on first broadcast, too. It worked for me at the time.

Swouncing

It worked for me at the time.

I fell in love once Wash and his dinosaurs were on screen, but the people I watched the pilot with needed some more time to really truly be hooked. By the end of the second hour, they ignored their cell-phones (which is a thing that Israelies never do), but not at the end of the first.

Oh, and the reason I posted here is to send early wishes to moonlit, whose birthday, according to the Buffista Calendar, will be on Saturday, the 20th (I just won't be in front of a computer until Sunday).
