The un-Americans are holding their breaths...
Some random thoughts:
1) Just rewatching early season 3 of Buffy, and am appreciating Dingoes lead singer Devon for the first time -- sort of cool, pretty dumb, good shirts, a bit of front-man presence, and the band overall just teetering at that place on the edge of badness where, with a few drinks in you, you can have a really good time.
2) Five more days to the big finale here in NZ. Sadly, feeling pretty underwhelmed. Apart from a few bright spots, season 7 didn't do it for me, and I desperately wanted it to. Hated what they did to Giles (emotionally distant, inexplicable behaviour), hated what they did to Spike (emasculated, boring; the `spark' that was his soul seemed to remove all the spark of his personality; he was so much more interesting as a soulless vampire who was trying to be good; the writers' and Buffy's obsession that the soul made all the difference negates all the interesting moral grey areas they set up in earlier seasons).
And hated what they did with Buffy (cold, brittle, inhuman, unconvincing, and horribly emaciated -- I hope that husband of hers takes her away and FEEDS her something). Plus the potentials and all those endless static scenes in the Summers house, and the clunky dialogue...
3) Although I recognise the brilliance of season 3, my all-time favourite is season 5. I loved Dawn's story; Buffy was scintillatingly alive even when her world kept imploding; Spike's interactions with everyone (Harmony, Dawn, Buffy, Riley, in particular) were magic; and even though Glory was flawed, her minions were funny and her brain-sucking was scary.
4) Has anyone else read Barb Cummings' critique of season 6 (in the essays section of bloodyawfulpoet.com -- sorry, I don't know how to do the linky thing)? A brilliant piece of writing (ie I agreed with every word with table-thumping intensity), and I'm thrilled to read on her website that she is in the process of preparing a rant on season 7.
Enough. Goodnight all.
Well, Betsy, I know that
Golden Wonder
make crisps. Quite nice crisps too, iirc. So I guess they also must sell peanuts. Although why they felt the need for a club to celebrate the glory of their peanuts is a whole nother question, and one which I feel I am ill qualified to answer.

You wouldn't
believe
the vast ocean of fanfic featuring Devon that exists out there. I'm talking shitloads. Mad, eh?
Re: Season 7 Buffy - I must confess I missed several episodes, so I'm going to have to wait until I get the season on DVD or video to really appreciate things properly. I had mixed feelings about the Season at times, but overall I liked it. And I think, having decided to bring Buffy back from heaven, that it's appropriate that she be thinner and more weary and less perky. (Agree that SMG would look healthier if there were a wee bit more of her, but I blame the damned industry for that. Stupid industry.

) I think that the finale works well, myself, but YMMV. Will be interested to see your take on it all once it's been aired.
Timelies!
Emergency message to Angus.. my tape for Tuesday's buffy did not work. Can we arrange something? Will contact soon.
Plasmo--arghh! Yes, sure. Let me know.
A truckload of Devon fic, eh, Fay? Wonders will never cease. So I suppose there's Jesse yarns out there too. And Larry fic. I really liked Larry. His coming out scene with Xander was cool. Then he was one of the whitehats in The Wish, which I just watched last night with my son, who couldn't figure out why Willow and Xander were behaving so badly in it. I tried to explain that this was just a pretend story about a different reality but then realised I was making it sound like normal Buffy stuff was actually real. Then I got confused...

Imagine trying to explain the multi-layer 'reality' of Andrew's little documentary earlier this season. I love that episode so much I wish it was a living thing so I could hug it.

Not so much. Devon shows up in a lot of fic as the Ultimate Man Slut. Dead Gay Larry occasionally pops up, and I've seen one or two Jesse-centric stories. A quick check at the BfA will show the disproportionate amount of Devon fic out there.
Maybe because he's kind of a blank screen?
Maybe it helps that he's associated with Oz?
