Well, I took my 3 children to see Piglet's Big Movie, yesterday. I wanted to know if AA Milne was buried there (he lived there, I believe) and if there have been any earth tremors indicating he might be rolling over in his grave.
Dear me.
I'd like to take this opportunity to assure the international community that average American people are not nearly as stupid, inisipip if you will, as the evidence supplied by Hollywood's bastardizations of your literature would lead one to believe.
Oh, I've just been reminded of the derivation of "Naff". It's Polari for a straight man - "Not Available For Fucking".
And Piglet's Big Movie reminded you of this, Jim?
Well, I should
hope
that Piglet is naff, all things considered. Unless Jim is considering writing Piglet/Pooh....
Uh, no - there was an (incorrect) guide to Polari in an email I got this morning.
Uh, not to be non-sequitur girl, but they had a whole segment about
this* on Triple J this morning and since I was listening while being stubbornly asleep (damn clock radio) I thought it was all a horrible, horrible hallucination. But it's apparently not, at least in the sense that someone bothered to actually print it, or post it, or whatever. My brain keeps running in little loop between "It's utterly absurd given what everyone involved has previously said" and "But where do you get an idea like that, if there's no basis whatsoever?" and then back again. Stupid paradox of the tabloids.
Edit - Thanks, Angus.
Leigh--you have to put the URL on a line by itself to get the auto-link thing working.
And this is clearly a crock, although in fact Holly Valance would have made a
great
Buffy!
the Star is a comic, even by Redtop standards. Safely ignored.
"It's utterly absurd given what everyone involved has previously said" and "But where do you get an idea like that, if there's no basis whatsoever?"
That was me when I heard.
Personally, I'd say it's part beat up (Apparently she's launching in the States in a couple of months, and I'd put dollars to doughnuts that this is her PR people just trying to put a few clicks on the internet site as the Americans say "who's that?" and go searching) and part miscontrustion of the other "rumour" I read today which was about casting for the movie (apparently scheduled for release in Summer 2004. um.. yeah?!?)
Me? I'm with Wil Anderson on the "This is wrong wrong wrong" side of the fence. (Which is okay really, 'cause the fence she do block my view of HV.)
What Jim said.
Although the only time I've seen Holly Valance on anything, she seemed like a nice lass. Good luck to her, and all that. But
The Star
is rubbish. Hell, the article ended with:
Gellar has turned down a seventh year in the show, which is watched by millions of people around the world
so it's not exactly the most trustworthy of sources, surely?
