You still have Milk Bars? The only one I know of is on Brighton Beach - it was a '90s a bone of contention, because The Kids want to open it as a club/bar/artspace, while The Man refused permission.

Milk bars (in britain) were alcohol-free bar hangouts for kids. much like Soda counters in 50s Americana. They turn up in Clockwork Orange, too.

Not that many, they're all being replaced by 7-11s. (To much gnashing of teeth, but the truth is that Milk Bars were usually crap anyway, and 7-11s are great, so I'm not complaining. Only difference is that a 7-11 won't make you a fresh sandwich or milkshake.)
t edit And from Jim's description Australian milk bars are a bit more basic and less groovy than UK ones.
