Sorry, did I say that aloud?

All Ogle, No Cash -- It's Not Just Annoying, It's Un-American

To me it sounded more like one of those old hair pomades.
Wait, these aren't the same thing??
I basically have to take public transit to get to my job, because I wouldn't drive (or park) here to save my life. Which means I have to live near public transit, which adds a certain figure to my rent automatically.
The part that has consistently annoyed me about public transit systems -- rail especially -- is that there are no cross-edge lines. In the DC Metro, if you want to get from Alexandria, VA to Vienna, VA, you have to go all the way into DC and out again. Same -- more egregious because it's older/slower -- is going from Forest Hills (in Boston) to Quincy Center (directly south of Boston), because you have to go into the city center on one line, switch, and come all the way back out again. My friend and I realized that there wasn't any point in taking the T to meet at each other's houses; it added an hour each way!
It's very similar in Melbourne, Nutty. Everything's radial. I look at the London Underground map and drool, all those cross-connections. (Although I understand the Underground itself is shite these days.)
Yep.
I take the bus everyday, and so far it works pretty well. But it does add a good half hour to my commute, not counting the extra time I spend waiting on street corners when the bus is up to a half hour late. And locally they're talking of cutting routes and raising fares yet again, and then they question why ridership is down. Even though university students ride for free, it still ends up costing in time and energy and dealing with the crazy people - who are also often the bus drivers. But if the system did work better, I probably wouldn't even think of getting a car, or waiting until I could afford a hybrid like the Prius.
FTR ... in Oz we just saw:
Buffy: the ep where CoW got blown out of the paddock and Spike got sliced to bring forth The Vampire.
Angel: the ep where Electro-chick reappeared, Manny got splattered and we got told Angelus was the cause of The Beast.
Not as bad as Londoners make out. And the buses are great.
I live in a city known in the high legends of the age as Corescant it's over-rated and a bit of a dump. I'd like to move all the bollards and lamps impeding progress to the rear of the pavement, reverse the flow of traffic and establish the cycle lanes as being more than pretty pictures of cycles painted on the road...
Edit: and the moon on a silver platter. The cycle lane bit I am working on dodging buses and cabs in FUN.
evil jimi, I just edited your post to close the t font tags. You may want to use the "s" quickedit for whitefont (details in the link above the posting box) since it makes it impossible to leave the tag unclosed.
amych ... I went and edited myself. Technically, I didn't actually leave the tag open. I just closed it with the wrong close-tag. ;)
