When I still ate meat, I actually really quite liked haggis. Because the ingredients are, basically, leftovers and crap, the things are loaded up with spices and so taste OK. I don't know what sort of bland haggis you had, Nutty, must have been a special Yank variety, extra taste-free.

The traditional accompaniments for haggis, by the way, are tatties, neeps and whisky (potatoes, turnips, and you-know-what).

You need to get turnips (this by the way is strictly the ONLY dish where turnips are allowed anywhere near my stomach) and lashings and lashings of yummy mashed potato. Then you mix the Haggis all up with the turnip and potato and scoff.
Veggie Haggis is also v. v. v. yummy.

I have. It's always way too spicy for me, though. (I'm all about the bland food. This either makes me a good vegetarian, if you think it's all bland anyway (not true), or a bad vegetarian, if you're trying to convince people that not all vegetarian food is bland. I had a point, but it seems to have wondered off to find its One True Pencil.)

What I meant was that, as the raison d'etre of haggis is to use up all the bits of the animal that you wouldn't otherwise eat, vegetarian haggis is a bit of a contradiction in terms. Eat spicy mush, yes, but don't call it haggis.

I know what you mean. I feel that way too, quite often (beans! lentils! tofu!), but it's really irritating to friends and family who are trying their best to cater for me, so I try and cultivate a list of things that are mock-meat, easy to make, and eatable, because it makes me a much nicer guest. And therefore more likely to be given free meals.
