There are more murders per capita in the US.
Wow. In Australia, you get to be murdered more than once? Tough crowd.
Look what I found in the local street press..

Angus ... don't forget the Op shops, or "recycled clothing" shops. I've scored some brilliant stuff in the past. In a recycled shop I got a pair of Doc Marten shoes for $20 and in a Salvo shop a pair of near-new Levi 501's for just $15.
Australia has had a bad run lately. On the afternoon of the 24th the Ghan train hit a passenger bus, which in turn hit two cars. "Fortunately," only 4 people were killed but the death toll could've been a lot higher. Strangely, the accident occured at 3:30PM and at around 4:30PM my mum received a semi-frantic phone call from her sister in Scotland. She'd heard the story on her morning radio and wanted to know if we were all okay. Mum still hadn't even heard about the accident at that time.
The last report I heard was 93 Aussies confirmed dead from the "Bali Bombing".
The most terrible story was in the weekend papers in Sydney -- this German girl who was in Bali for the bombing, and escaped to the safety of Australia? Eaten by a crocodile. I swear. That's just horrible.

That girl had been in Bali? Man. I should mention, the billabong where she was swimming was signposted as a crocodile habitat. I think that just makes it worse, really.

Was it posted in German?
Just a terrible run of luck.
Was it posted in German?
No, though I don't think 'crocodile' is very different in German, and she was with other people too. I don't think they could have misunderstood the signs.
FWIW, I have heard German tourists described as among the most recklessly foolish of visitors abroad. But the poor girl may have just been not able to read the English warning sign.
That story has reminded me of this thing I heard in the UK years ago.
Guy has cancer. Guy goes to special cancer hospital and gets cured. Guy is very grateful. Guy decides to raise money for special cancer hospital -- with Sponsored Parachute Jump. Guy is seriously injured in Sponsored Parachute Jump and spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
Even Tim bloody Minear wouldn't come up with something like that.
